I could say I have been lazy but I went out one day and the rain was so heavy I could hardly see so abandoned the run and it was the same for a good few days. I don't mind a bit of rain but if it's so heavy I get asked if I have been swimming that's rain stopped play.
What a difference not running for a few days makes. I was struggling with the initial 3 minutes of running. My legs had forgotten how to run. After the 5 mins I was bent over coughing but fortunately I was not ill. After that I seem to have pulled myself together. So much so the last 5 minutes I felt pretty good so I think it was half and half in terms of success but I did manage to keep going.
I am sure I said this about the 3 mins but 5 mins was tough but at least I get rewarded today. The sun is out so I am off to relax outside with a cup of tea.

Good call - It's no point in running and slipping up in the rain and causing yourself a injury.
You lose hardly any condition from not running for two weeks and after that loss is gradual, it sounds like that you set off too fast, you need to run at a pace where you are able to hold a conversation. You realised this and later slowed down and the run was more comfortable.
