I feel I am progressing well the first 5 minutes I tend to feel tired quickly then it seems to clear and I can just keep going. Question is when to hit the tarmac as I have been running in the fields following spinal surgery July last year?

That's really a question for your doctor.... what was their advice for returning to running?
My consultant said I could return to running but to begin on softer ground
Well it's down to you then.... try a small portion on tarmac and rest off road... see how it feels. I wouldn't just swap in one go, ease back into it paying close attention to feedback from your body 👍🏻
Agree with GoGo_JoJo - you need to ease yourself in. If you can, maybe do the 1st few minutes on tarmac, and then turn into your field. Get used to doing that for a few runs, and then each week, extend the tarmac time by a bit .
Well done you.
The first few minutes of any run, for any runner, are known as the Toxic Ten, explained here healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and why there is no point pushing hard in the first few minutes.
go to a local high school that has a rubber running surface on their 440 track. Also some city parks lay down a thick rubber for walking and running with no bike access. Everyone feels crappy the fist part of a work out then you warm up and with enough effort endorphins kick in and off you go...Pain at surgery level tells you. Blue Skies
Good stuff, keep it going. Do you have to run on tarmac? Easier on the joints on grass.
