Treadmill is hard

So I missed my 30 minute consolidation run early this morning and decided to go back to the local gym this evening, and try the treadmill. It was the hardest run I’ve done yet. Maybe it was too warm for me but it was certainly boring. Dull, dull, dull. Thought I was toast around the22 minute mark but pleased that mind over matter won the day. I have a new found admiration for treadmill runners. I’ll stick to outside and use the gym as a back up, I think. I’m using the gym for strength work but not on running days. Thanks for listening to me whine.

Yep the ‘dreadmill’ is boring and hot and hard 😂😂. I can only do short runs on the treadmill so I use it for mid week interval runs just because it’s convenient but it ain’t much fun 😂😂

Dreadmill - love it. Although slightly cross that I didn’t think of that. 😂

😂😂 It’s a word lots of people use on here. Lots of us find the treadmill deadly dull 😫

The great outdoors over a treadmill any day! Though it will come useful on snowy days. 😀👍

Agreed. Could have snowy days in June and July this year the way the weather is. 😀

I've run on snowy days. I've been hailed on. It's all a matter of the right clothing.

PS. I've never run on a treadmill. I'm not planning to revisit the gym just yet.

How does the snow feel in barefoot shoes?

Not great as the shoes are not in any way waterproof.

You need good socks, preferably a wool mix, and then you get a sort of wetsuit effect where the water in the socks warms to body temperature.

The snow didn't lie for long this winter round here, so the paths were more damp with occasional icy bits.

Good to know what you find dull isn’t it? So many things influence a run I find

I LOVE treadmill running - many obviously don't but that cos they don't seem to know how to get the best out of them or how to entertain themselves. I mean ... TV, podcasts, music etc etc. It'a great chance to catch-up on stuff!

In my 6 years of running, about 30% has been on a treadmill - I find them incredibly useful i al sorts of ways. I love the control and the ability to compare my heart rate for the exact same run under the exact same conditions. I've really missed treadmill running while gyms have been closed, so delighted to finally get back on one a few weeks ago.

VIVA LA TREADMILL!

Thank you for posting this. I started CT5K in December in the gym by week 2 they were shut so I took to the streets and completed wk9 a few weeks ago and continued to run three times a week for 30 minutes. I cancelled my gym membership earlier today even though I was in two minds. Your post has helped me feel sure I made the right decision, so thank you. Enjoy your future outdoor running.

Absolutely but reading some replies I get why it is good for some people. I might give it another bash occasionally but turn off the clock and listen to the c25k app. Re-thinking it I believe it was overheating I didn’t really like.

Yeah the sweat doesn’t evaporate. Gross. It can be good for speed work I guess. I find them much harder to run on than outdoors - go much slower for the same effort.
