I've just completed run 2 of week 1 and am now giving myself a talking to. I feel good for completing run 2 and I can't wait to get out and do it again, but as the title suggests, this is my 3rd attempt at completing Couch to 5k. The furthest I have got is run 2 of week 3.
I'm worried that I'll lose the motivation to keep going and that I'll accept the less than healthy habits I've adopted over the past 15 years that have seen me gain 4stone and lose almost every iota of fitness I was ever in possession of.
I want to become a regular runner. I need to become a regular runner. I need to increase my fitness and I need to lose weight. I desperately want to regain a good level of fitness, feel healthier and look better. That should be enough to motivate me to keep going, right?
The most frustrating thing for me is that I know I can do it but i don't know if i will.
I already know the excuses that I'll make to justify not going out for a run as scheduled. I know the excuses that will follow that too. You would think that sounds like I'm prepared....

You CAN do it...... its all about the mind battle. You body is designed for it but your brain maybe says otherwise. Plan a time and day and just get the trainers on and go for it. I also plan a treat for afterwards- usually a nice shower and lovely breakfast or lunch and a quick watch of TV or reading a book before I have to get on with rest of my day. But you absolutely CAN do this....
Biscuit-binger You already told us in this post why you want to do this. I generally set goals and when I reach the it. I'll give my self a treat like a day binge-watching my favourite tv programme or a day out and don't put yourself under any pressure just go out and enjoy.
Well done for coming back to have another go at it. Sometimes it just does take a few goes to do the thing you know you should, each time you try you're probably learning a little more about your stumbling blocks. I had quite a few trial runs before I finally stopped smoking, I'm so pleased now that I kept trying.
I hope you write posts about your progress, so we can cheer you on.
You're not alone. I started at the end of March last year. It took me three attempts to get past week 2. It was only when I got to week 3 in June last year that things "clicked" and I was able to continue to the end.
I ran 10 miles for the second time yesterday. It's possible.
Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond. Its great to hear your tips and to hear how you have overcome your own challenges. This morning i heard all of the excuses going round in my head for not going out to do run 3 of week 1. Thankfully I didn't listen to them though - so that's week 1 done. Baby steps!
Great to hear it... I've asked the same question as in.. why I can't do this for myself?? I've never found the solution to that but, I found this group and the support here is fantastic!!
You've already identified your reasons not to do it, why not write the reasons why you should and the results of not doing it and the results if you complete it.
Week 1 has been completed, well done on getting to week 2.
