Heeeeelp!

I have the app but it doesn't want to work wit my music player and the BBC music choices offered would turn me into an axe murderer not a runner. how can I listen to music I like, plus get prompts of when to walk and run, how fast to run (to reach 10kph pace by week 9, I'm less than 8kph now)?

I use Spotify. Sarah Millican turns my music down when she's talking!

I have the same problem. The music is faded for the first podcast but not afterwards (latest Android) . While I would enjoy the detraction of music having run so long with Jo I'd rather listen to her than the music.I run W9R2 tomorrow.

Absolutely forget how fast you need to go. You need to go slower in fact as the intervals get longer. Only 10% of people reach 5k in 30 minutes on graduation.

I used Spotify.

wow, why is it called C25K if for 90% of people it's C2randomdistancelessthan5k! that's well worth knowing thank you! I don't think I could run slower (toddlers and old ladies and 3-legged dogs overtake me) but it's very helpful to know that thank you :-)

You’ve got to go slow enough to get through the runs. Took me another 5 months to get sub 30. Some people never get there. Who cares. You can run 😊

The aim of the programme is to run for 30 minutes continuously, but "Couch to 30 Minutes" is not such a catchy title! 😂

Re. your music not playing, have a look at your battery saving options in your phone's app settings.

Welcome to the forum.

The app has no music, although the podcasts do and, yes, the music is not to everyone's taste. There is a link to the app in the guide.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

thanks, yes I'd read that page, I run like the Japanese chap advocating slow jogging so that's a good start! I can run for 30 minutes without stopping at that pace, and no ill effects afterwards, but I am sure I need to do the interval pattern to build stamina.

I’ve been using Spotify and it’s good if you’ve got that. Good luck with your next run

the trouble is that I like relatively unusual indie music and most of that is not on Spotify which is a pain, same with itunes. Bandcamp has some of the music but not compatible with C25K, same with rocketplayer which I use mainly on phone, playing music from store on 128Gb SD card (one of many reasons I don't haver an iphone!)

Urgh. No wonder you are frustrated. It’s rough without music. Not sure what to suggest ? Is there any mainstream stuff you like at all ? A bit of retro Queen or gorrilaz? Not sure 🤔

Ktkinns profile image
Ktkinns in reply to Badrun

yes there is a crossover, but any playlist on mainstream list is mostly stuff I would skip. Queen don't stop me now good example I'd run to; I like Gorillaz but don't find it's running music. I could try to make a spotify lst of things that wrk.....

I'm using the couch to 5k app with both BBC sounds and my regular music player, playing music from my SD card. I've used both music player go and musicolet. I just start the music first and then run the app.

I'll try that. I want it to do what Audible does with satnav, i.e.e to pause music when satnav speaks so I miss nothing

DylanTheRabbit profile image

It doesn't pause the music, it just turns it down a little while the coach speaks, and back up again when they've said their bit.

I also find that good music carries me, it would be a big disincentive if I had to tolerate 30mins of royalty free "music" 😬

In the past I would have my music playing app already on. The One You C25K app then fades the music volume when talking or advising the intervals then fades up the music volume again after. So you will miss some of the tracks. Mrs Katnap likes using minimalist synth music so it isn't too big a deal to miss a section.

Not liking the podcast music is added incentive to complete each session so you don't have to do any extra. It helps if you don't think of it as music - it's purpose is different. I hear so many people putting together their playlists and there is a definite problem with choosing a 'go faster' soundtrack.

for me it's not about 'running faster' music but 'feel like running' music. me without music, or with music I dislike: lazy labrador; me with Killers, new order, Woodentops: excited whippet!
