The good old BBC weather forecast said it would be about 5 degrees at 6:30 this morning - it was 4 and the headwind was strong as I battled up hill. A pair os short shorts and a Helly Hansen L/S Lifa top really didn't offer much protection. My fault for not going out better prepared!

I did feel like giving up and coming back later, but I know that where I run will be packed later, and I am an intolerant soul who likes my solitude, so I persevered. At two points I did have to walk due to the steepness of the track and the strength of the headwind, but I battled through most valiantly.

I turned at my usual stop for W8 and scuttled back. At the end I stopped my Garmin and stretched. Back at home, the watch downloaded to my 'phone and it would appear that even with walking for 2 bits my [naughty W8 30 min run] was 4.9K! It just happened.

Graduation week next week where the tempo is due to barely rise above 0 one day, so I may not crack the 30min/5K combo, but I don't care. If I do, I do; if I don't. I don't.

A good but chilly run and I WILL wear long legs next week if the forecast is right!!

At 5°C I'd be wearing a long sleeved thick top, possibly two layers. I'd probably have either long socks or running leggings on, too.

When it was properly freezing a few months ago, I had multiple layers on my legs too, and a thicker running jacket.

When it's colder and the wind is blowing, you do need something to stop the wind chill.

I expect the warmth of indoors hit you when you got back!

Actually, it is amazing how quickly you warm up! I shall keep telling myself that, and one day it may be true. It was decidedly chilly, if I'm honest. As for the warmth of him... hmmm, it's an ancient Dartmoor cottage with more holes than Swiss cheese, and more draughts than a draughts championship in November.

A jolly good run though. Thanks.

The other difficulty in kitting up choices is when you're doing a longer run (like mine was this morning), where the day starts cold and breezy then significantly warms up whilst you're out running.
