I have started working with a personal trainer (im 61) doing an hour twice a week of cardio/stretching exercise. Use weights and kettlebells too No running or jumping. I wanted to feel healthy and flexible with improved stamina. But i just ache all the time. Is this normal? I did C25k about 3 years ago and i ached after that. But the days in between i felt marvellous. Is this the fate of my ageing body. Can i not expect to feel as energised and invigorated as in my 30s/40s?

Well... I am 71 in two weeks and although I am still getting back to par after a blip in October, I don't feel your aching is a result of your age; certainly I don't find aches and pains are there.
If there are no other medical issues... are you warming up well, are you doing strength and stamina work on some rest days, and what advice is your personal trainer giving you, regarding your aches and pains.
On our Strength and Flex forum, there are loads of ideas to improve your core strength and your stamina. I did a whole series of post for our running body.
I am repeating C25K for the umpteenth time to get back to my HM level... and still doing all the core strength work that goes with that. It is increasingly important as we age, I feel, to keep everything supple!

What about repeating C25K and enjoying tit all over again... see how you go?
Hope this helps!
As the saying goes...
"You can't outrun ageing, but the better shape you're in, the longer it takes for your age to catch up to you."
I am starting over too & loving being back out there.. 69th birthday coming up in a few months!
Annieapple! I was only thinking about you earlier today and wondering how you were! So glad to hear you’re back with us again! Enjoy redoing C25K - I’ll be joining you on some runs before too long, I’ve been firmly attached to the IC since January but hope to start trotting again slowly next week!
Thank you!!! Great to see some old names amongst many new brave runners!! We can do this!! Xxxx
I moved up to two sessions a week as my pt felt the gap in between weekly sessions was too long. Im not very self motivated to do stuff myself despite her giving me exercises to do in between. Also as a counsellor I sit for long periods even though i know i ‘should’ move around between each appointment
I have to say too that i feel worse since having my first AZ vaccine 6 weeks ago
I think that you've answered your own question. You need to move.. moving will become a habit. Bodyfit with Amy..has 5 and 20 minute office exercises..easily done..
You are relatively young in today's terms and have a long way to go.
My feeling would be..once a week with your trainer maybe, repeat C25K...posting on here to keep you answerable...and take some tips from IannodaTruffe too?
Some habits, if we can get into them are really useful.
👍

Perhaps your trainer is working you too hard.C25k is a perfect example of gently progressive training plan which is unlikely to cause major aches and pains if undertaken at the recommended pace.
How is your hydration and diet?
Keep moving on rest days and perhaps stretch.
This post about aging and running may help you understand what is going on in your body healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
You will probably work through the aches and pains. They are not inevitable........said the 65 year old.

Well done! Resistance training is essential for maintaining bone density and is the perfect addition to cardio. Kettlebells can be fairly hardcore - I was a PT for quite a while and would definitely recommend them, but treat them with respect. You need to start lifting very light in order to let your ligaments and tendons adapt to the resistance. I would mention to your PT how you feel, but also, like anything, some aching is to be expected anytime we ‘stress’ our body in a different way. I for one can’t wait for the gyms to reopen so I can get my hands on some proper weights! Keep up the good work Jasminflower59 😀👍🏃♀️.
