Done it at 60!

I am over the moon. It took me longer than the 9 weeks due to caring commitments and recent weather conditions. Some weeks I managed all three runs in a week others only two but I progressed through every run steadily. I’m not a competitive person and my main concern was injury- knowing myself well enough that if that happened it would be a while before I got back on the horse, if ever!My daughter , whose a qualified PT instructor joined me on my very first run and ran with me on my very last run to make it more special. She planned a different route for me and kept me updated with progress - so I gave Laura, my constant companion the heaveho! Unbeknown to me ,she saw that I could actually do 5K, as opposed to the 30 mins run and fall short. She told me later we had done 37 mins - so I don’t think I was faster just ran for longer. It was a day I’ll remember and treasure ( not least because there was heavy rain ,gale force winds and hail!) and I wouldn’t have even started it without the trusted recommendations from NHS &BBC. Apart from the challenge I was also interested at just what the body can do with the right understanding. This is only my second post but I always read the posts coming in to my email and I have found this site to be so lovely - informative and supportive- thank you. I love walking and if I’m honest I cannot say running rocks my boat as much- however- there have been runs that I’ve itched to get out on and I’ve been researching running shoes....could it be I’m catching the bug?..😂

It seems as though there’s a long way to go at the beginning but as you slowly but surely progress there comes a point when you think” I might just do this!” Mine was at week 5 but I still lacked the courage to tell people - just in case I didn’t make it!🤣 Most of its in your head- as soon as I began to think that I didn’t want to do it , I had to knock the thought on the head.. it seems where your mind leads your body follows! See you graduating in a few weeks time!
