Hobbling

I've completed w2r1 and feel totally deflated. I felt worse than run 1! My legs felt heavy and struggled to run for even the 30seconds. My hamstrings and bum were uncomfortable which made me hobble. I do stretch before and after. Is this sort of the norm or could it be my running style? I've never really run before except for the train...🙃

You might want to slow down a bit. I know that might seem odd but it really can help. Pace isn’t an issue through this programme. Stretching also important as is hydration and in early days I found a foam roller helped alot. Sounds like body getting used to it and it will work!! Trust the programme and go slow.

Hi Well done u doing great! I think heavy legs mean u dehydrated, im no expert so not sure on what to do, but dont give up, admin sent me a link to read which was really helpful, and has got me through to the end week 7.

The heavy legs really could be a sign that your not hydrated enough, or so I’m told, so make sure you keep the fluids up, even on your days off from running. I think the aches and pains are common for all of us at some point, I know it was for me, but dedicating a few more minutes to my stretching really helped; just be careful though and if you’re feeling the niggles while you’re on a session don’t just push on, you don’t want to get an injury. Lastly don’t get too disheartened, easy to say I know🥴, you’ll feel yourself easing into it all soon so keep it up, you’ve made the important step of getting out there in the first place 👍

That was the norm for me for three weeks. Then hey presto it all went away. I just took it easy and got through it.

Are you 'running' or jogging?

Watch these 2 videos which hopefully will help you:

Do dynamic stretches before and static stretches after.

Thank you everyone for all your lovely advice. I find everyone so incredibly supportive. Have been more drinking more before my evening runs and stretching after. I had a week off because it was too much but started again. The pain is more a little niggle now and I'm just about to start week 4. Eeekkk!!
