I know this will be a really silly question to some of you, but how do you work out 5K? I know it just can't be guesswork or trial and error but don't know how to work it out.

You can either use a running watch to track your run using GPS or download on of the running apps to track your run 👍

So you can't actually see the distance or plan a map first?

Yes , you can use sites such as 'plotaroute.com'

I planned several 10k routes on this site 👍

5K, 5 kilometers is 5000 metres, that's 3.107 miles.

If you want to run a 5K the best way to know how far it is get an app like Strava or Mapmyrun, while running or walking an auto voice tells you how many kilometers you have ran or walked, if you keep to the same route, through time you will know how far 5K is.

If you are thinking about starting C25K, good luck, however, C25K doses not go by kilometers, it's a training course to get you to run for 30 minutes in 9 weeks.

I am in wk7 of couch but I wondered how to plan 5K for when I finish. Thank you so much for the info.

Remember, only 10% of graduates manage 5k in Week 9 . Doing 5k is not the goal. Jogging for 30 mins, 3 times in Week 9 is the goal - whatever that distance is.

Oh yes I am nowhere near but I just wondered how you all did it. I use at the moment my Samsung health app which is linked to my phone but that tells me the complete distance including the 2 walks at beginning and end.

I did reach 5km in 30 minutes on my graduation run, but in doing so gave myself a pair of ankle sprains which took a month to heal.

One star, would not recommend.

Oh dear I hope you are better now. I am nowhere near as I only reach 4.7k in wk7 including the walks lol

Yes, I'm fine now. That was back at the end of August. Last month I did four runs of 10km or more. I only seem to have trouble when trying to do 5km in 30 mins or less.

On the laptop/PC version of Google Maps, if you right click on the map, you can use the Measure Distance tool to measure the distance of your route. Seems to be reasonably accurate.

I use ‘plotaroute.com’, entered my post code, and found lots of 5km routes already mapped by others. I picked out one I like and stuck to same route every run on the program thus far irrespective of how long I am running, then walk the rest).

Hi there, I use ‘on the map go’ to plan my routes, it’s quick to draw your route out and shows footpaths as well as roads 🏃🏻‍♀️
