Oh I was not in the mood to get up and run today. Snuggled in bed, and dozing with my cat curled up at my feet, I really just wanted to stay there. But I have a hospital appointment this afternoon which will leave me feeling tired and in need of a couple of restful days, so no chance to go later, and I don’t want to give up this early in the plan! So at 11.15 I dragged myself up, and eventually headed out.
I couldn’t face starting off with my normal hill so decided to head the other way out of the village. I wanted to know how far I get at the moment, so that I can see when I’m running enough to start doing a circuit (with lots of spare walking at the end!).
I thought there was less uphill this way, but it turns out that’s not entirely true - it’s just more gradual. Fortunately, the three minute run didn’t start until I was just about at the top (I thought!). That got me further out of the village than I expected, which was good, and I discovered there’s a pavement along the road to the next village which was a real bonus, as I’d been a bit worried about the prospect of running there as it’s a rather busier road. Three minute walk done, I headed back.
Having thought that I’d been going gently uphill most of the way out, i figured the way back should be easy - and quickly realised that apparently there had been more gentle downs than I’d realise as I was again heading up a slight gradient! But it’s only 90 seconds and I can do that... The next walk took me down a slight slope, and then the last three minutes started, uphill again! How on earth does this happen, that the running has been uphill in both directions??? Clearly the terrain was out to get me today, but I’m made of sterner stuff. Nothing was going to stop me, having got this far - and it didn’t. Week 3 run 2 DONE!
