First run

Just been out and done my first run and couldn’t manage it all, has anyone else found this? I am planning to repeat week 2 with the first a brisk walk and build myself up!

You are probably going too fast. Slow down then slow down again. Good luck but keep going you can do it.

I ended up brisk walking 60% of it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm on Week 4, Run 3. The first run is SO tough! I remember it was like i forgot how to run normally?! How to breathe, pace, anything.

I know it's unhelpful but it really doea get easier. Just take the first week as finding a pace and routine that works well for you. My pace is probably slower than my walk, but i do it 😂 Massive well done for starting!

Thank you I think I may do week 1 twice

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Repeat any session you do not fully complete, before moving on.

It is not a problem if your walk is faster than your jog..........slow down.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi Hidden , firstly well done for getting out there and starting to run. I did my first run 10 days ago, it was a big struggle. I could only complete 2 of the 8 sixty second bursts and I was terrified I would fall over. I then left it 9 days until I ventured out again, which was yesterday. It was still tough, but I completed all 8 of the sixty second jogs, very slow jogs that is. I plan to go out again tomorrow to keep the momentum going. I ‘m sure your second run will not be as hard, good luck, just keep going😊

I would try Week One again and this time GO SLOW. Look up the Japanese slow jogging clip. I was doing 14 km on my runs in the first week. Guess what, I couldn't do it. Plus I was lucky not to injure myself. Try 7 kmh (or even slower) I run about that rate now and am doing 60 minutes tomorrow as part of the plan to 10K so expect to do just under 7k. Oh and enjoy it

Week 1 run 1 was bad! 30+ years since school and any form of running I’d say. But it has got easier and I’m enjoying it. Result! Keep at it - you can do this 👍

My first run was vile! Like utterly vile, I couldn’t do all the runs, I walked most of it and hated the whole thing. Now I realise I was running waaaay to fast and was ill prepared for what I was embarking on. I read everything, took advice and watched the videos on slow jogging and haven’t had many issues since. You do need to complete every run successfully, each one will prepare you for the next.

I wouldn’t have believed anyone that told me I’d be where I am now in that first run but I’ve just finished week 5!

It does work, it’s not always easy but so far it’s always been worth it.

Stick with it, we’re all behind you 😎👍

Hi Jogalots. I was the queen of repeating! Don’t know if you’ve seen my post but it took me 29 weeks to graduate. Any repeated week is another week under your belt. It makes you fitter and stronger. Stick with it and trust me it will come. The plan works. Good luck!
