OK so new to this running should I go out and buy a good pair of running shoes or are normal trainers OK does it really make a difference

Well done for starting ! And yes, it does make a difference.
You could probably get away with the first few weeks of the program but once you get onto the longer runs then proper running shoes will certainly be better (and safer)
The thing to do is (when shops re open) get a gait analysis done at a dedicated running shop , they wil then advise you on what you need !

Definitely running shoes. And yes, they really make a difference.
Ordinary trainers will be fine for a while - but if you continually to run regularly, then eventually they become an injury-risk. They are not built with regular running in mind.
BUT... no need to break the bank. You can get perfectly decent ones for around £50. And always looks for 'last year's model' - they are always cheaper.

Just get out there for now. I got my runners after I graduated. I reckon Week 5 or 6 is a good time plus the shops might be open then.
