Trainers advice please😊
Extra grip usually means a trail type shoe which is better on soft ground, grass and mud or rocky surfaces. They are all neutral so wont add pronation support if you require it. Not much is going to help with ice though, though some have tried running with the clip on spikes/overshoes I can't comment as to how effective they are.
I just tend to run like wiley goat constantly scanning for the non icy patch to tread and testing each footfall with the ankle, it slows you down but you can do it.
Some interesting options in this article, dated and US prices but good for ideas runnersworld.com/trail-runn...
Salomon make a spiked ice running shoe for northern climes. Not sure you'd get enough wear out of them in Uk tho. Might be hard/poor cushioning.

Thanks il check that out! Heres to warmer weather or anything other than ice!! Happy running 😊
If you can afford to have them sitting under the stairs all year apart from a handful of ice runs then they are the biz. They will give you the confidence to run in very icy conditions for sure. We use the carbide spikes in winter road tyres too here in Finland. They work.
Ice and runners don’t mix.
If you really must run when it’s icey try running on grass or trail, at least you might have a little grip.
Just do not run on ice.. that is cheaper It is the one weather condition many of us will never run in!
Better to do strength training inside on icey days. You wont lose conditioning and stamina over a few days.
Enjoy mixing it up a bit
My son alters his running style when running on ice. He tries to run on roads in icy conditions but if that isn't possible he will alter his style from running up on his toes to running more flat footed. He finds he doesn't slip as he has more surface area to push off from. I trust his advice having run successfully for a running club for many years. I prefer not to run on ice and do gym work instead! I have a pair of Yak Trax which are excellent for walking but I wouldn't be confident running in them.
