do proper running trainers make that much difference?

Trainers
This post on running shoes will give you my perspective healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Fashion trainers are not running shoes and good footwear can protect you from injury and are much cheaper than a physio.
I would say definitely yes.
I tried a run in the New Balance trainers that I wear to the gym and they are "heavy" and not very supportive compared to the running shoes I shelled out for. Yes they were expensive but they are as light as a marshmallow and supportive. I have the tiniest pronation in one foot so wear mild arch support inserts too.
And the more you run, the more difference they’ll make.
Going into week 4, as you are, you ought to be upgrading your shoes if they’re at all unsuitable.
Copy what everyone else has already said.
Proper running shoes will absolutely make a difference.
I would advise going to a specialist running shop to get a gait analysis so that you can be sure you end up with the right type of shoe for the way you run.
Otherwise you run the risk of injury if you are running in unsuitable shoes.
