W8R2, felt like the worst one ever! Done it but it wasn’t good. Started slow and gradually got slower, there were a couple of times when It felt like I was almost running on the spot. 😖 breathing wasn’t too bad, weirdly, but felt totally drained at about 20 mins. Things definitely seems to be going down hill since completing week 7.
Ok rant and feeling sorry for myself over. I know not every run is going to be great but it can get frustrating at times 🤣 I’m hoping R3 will feel a bit better ahead of my final week 😃

Hi, think I’m in the same boat. About to do Wk8 R1 tomorrow and I found Wk7 v hard. Felt as if I was treading water between 5 mins and 20 mins on my last run. Bit nervous about tomorrow.
Thanks, And good luck to you as well Gatelyd, I’m sure you’ll be great, think I just had a bad night. As usual keep it slow, empty the mind and keep those fluids up. 😃👍
I’ve just been out so maybe catching you a bit late, but if you haven’t taken the plunge into week 8 just yet, have a fantastic run and hope it all goes well, you’ve done the hard stuff getting here so try and enjoy it, you’ll be great. If you’ve done it already, I’m hopeful your having a little celebration 👍
If it helps, I really didn't enjoy Weeks 7 or 8. I kept having tech fails - I was using the podcasts and they went crazy - and I can clearly remember thinking I'd never make it up the final uphill of one run. However I graduated at the end of June 2020 and am still running today.
So my message to you Skel68 and Gatelyd , and indeed anyone else in a similar position, is that you can do it!
Thank for the comments Cmoi, appreciated 👍 I’m also hoping to graduate in the next week or so and continue doing the same. I am starting to realise though that progression in running isn’t quite a linear process. Oh well, onwards and upwards as the say.
Maybe give yourself an extra day off between runs. Not necessarily every run. You can give yourself an 8 day week. And you too Gatelyd . It might do wonders. You're both running further so it takes more out of you.
Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.
There are good runs and there are runs you think are bad. They're still runs. They all contribute to the training.
If you've been overdoing it, rest an extra day or two. Your shoes will still be there and will have a little extra spring in them when you put them on again.
Leaden legs may be a sign of insufficient hydration.
Hi there I’m on WK 7 Run 3 tomorrow and I am finding it a tough one. I loved week 6 but have found 7 hard. I have repeated Run 2 about 3 times as kept giving up and have jogged on the spot a couple of moments 🙈 I’m sure your next run will be better your nearly there !! 😀 Wishing you all the best
Thank you Jean75 😊 and just keep at it, we’ll get there.Face it, if you were anything like me, 60 seconds was a struggle a few months ago; now look where we are 😃 I’m surprised I’ve got anything to gripe about really but it can be a tad frustrating at times. 🤣. Anyway, best wishes to you 👍
Hi, just to say I have really been struggling with week 7 also and have ended up repeating the runs. Have now done the 25 minute run 5 times. Last one (yesterday) was definitely a bit better. Have got stuck before and advice here has been very clear, - Slow Down. I really took that on board yesterday and i think it helped (again!). Other comments about being rested are also important I find. If I haven't had a good sleep or maybe went for too long a walk on the in-between day that seems to have a negative effect. Anyway just to say you definitely aren't on your own with this. I am looking forward to the run tomorrow having had a good one yesterday. Also have picked up Ionnada Truffe's "speed" test today. "Am I going to slow enough to enable me to say this sentence in one outbreath". Am going to try that tomorrow to check I am going slow enough. Thanks Ionnada.
Hi, Well done for reaching week 8. I did run 1 week 8 last Saturday but it was tough. The weather has been appalling all week and I had the Covid vaccine on thursday which wiped me out. Still raining today and cannot get motivated to run in the rain!. I am 66 next month and haven't run for about 30 years so I think I have done quite well and not repeated any weeks or runs. When Sarah Millican says 'don't go too fast now' I have a little smile to myself as there is absolutely no danger of me doing that. I need to get motivated now and keep going........ It's tough.
It sounds like you’ve done brilliantly, keep it going 👍 we’ve only 5 runs to go until graduation 😀and a life time of getting motivated to put your trainers on after that🤣 The weather can put a dampener on the whole thing at times though, no pun intended.
I found week 8 rough going too and looking at other posts about the struggles people have in week 8 really helped (in a weird kind of way 😂). I was hoping to start week 9 but had to stop for a wee while, bursitis, literal and metaphorical pain in the bum. Today I went back to week 7, so far so good! Going backwards if you need to is ok, listen to your body and don’t scunner yourself.
My best advice is don't worry and try not to be disheartened. Progress is definitely not linear and ups and downs are all part of the experience (just like life). Keep on going - we've got this and we can do it!
