Hi, I previously completed C25K last Dec/january last year but then due to several floods I stopped running regularly but continued doing strength conditioning. A couple of months ago I managed 2 6k runs comfortably but went out again a few weeks later and gave up after 15mins. I want to get back out there with more consistency. Question is should I repeat any weeks on C25K?
Getting back out there: Hi, I previously... - Couch to 5K
Getting back out there
You can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, if you want to, restart at week 3
We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.
Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.
As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running.
After that loss of condition is gradual.
All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.
You need to rebuild your body's resistance to impact and injury. I recently restarted C25K after a break of four months, despite the fact that I have nearly eight years of running on my legs.
