W3R2-brrrrr

It was tough going today with the weather. It’s so cold out. But I put my ear phones in and started my app. I’m so glad I did it. I go a little further than the app each time. Tonight I managed to run for two whole songs! To say I’m pleased with myself is an understatement. I’ve just turned 50 at 5ft2 and a little over weight for my frame.. I never thought I’d get into running but I find on my rest days I’m restless at 5pm which is my usual run time.

I’m building myself up to W4 after reading on here that that’s the tough wk and a step change in timings.. I’ll see how I get on but so far I’m really enjoying this program and reading posts on this forum.

Keep going!

I’m on week 3 too i haven’t looked at week 4 not sure if o dare now! I’m the same on test days I really fancied a run today weather was so sunny and crisp! But I’m being good and following the program and advice it gives to rest in between xx

You are getting on very well indeed Jojamdunc, you are correct on not looking at future weeks or runs, wait for the instructions from your coach before you run, remember that you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, onwards and upwards to week 4🏃🏾👍

Well done to you Jogll on completing run 2 of week 3, a little tip, from now on don't look ahead at future weeks or runs, wait for the instructions from your coach before you run. 🏃🏾 👍

Hi I’ve not looked ahead but some posts on here mention different weeks. So it’s hard not reading about w4. I’ve not progressed past my level of the week, although I do more walking and smaller runs after the app has finished as I feel I can but always have my rest day.

👍

Great progress Jogll but there's no need to go further than the app, you're better off sticking with the plan 👍 we're all able to push our bodies a little further, but it only leads to injury's and stresses until our bodies and muscles are ready to 🙂.

Good luck for the next run

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Please be careful about doing more than the plan demands. We are all capable of doing way more than our bodies are conditioned to do, but not without increasing our injury risk. Sticking to gently progressive training plans is the safest way to push our limits, whilst gently increasing our resistance to injury.

Injury often strikes out of the blue and can stop you for days, weeks or even months.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi thanks for responding to my post. I’m finding the forum quite helpful. I’m not pushing myself too much I’m sticking to the plan but walk a little further after the app has finished and if I feel up to it will run to a song. Thanks

Walking is fine, as it is the impact of running that the gently progressive plan is slowly conditioning your body to cope with.

You're doing very well. I stuck with the app timings although I was occasionally tempted to go further. I now run for up to 50 minutes, still pretty slowly, but just working up gradually. And as you've braved the cold, I've no excuse for not running today. Brrr!!

I'm about same age as you and did W4R1 last night and really enjoyed it, despite weatherman telling me that wind chill was making it feel like minus 6!!In W3 I was wondering how my body would cope with 3 min runs but was pleasantly surprised that when you've 5 min runs to do that the 3 mins runs feel so easy- the plan obviously works. Good luck with W4 next week.

Well done 👍🏻 I’ve got W3R2 today. Like you I go a little bit further than the app, two extra 90 second runs.

Well done Jogll. I’m a couple of years older and no runner but completed W9 last month. Just trust the plan and keep going through weeks 4 and 5. The increased run time seems daunting but as so many posts confirm, we are capable. Good luck.
