I have finished the C25K - although I haven't actually managed 5K yet. My problem is my breathing - I am unable to get past snatching for breath and the smallest incline seems like hell .. any tips? Thank you

Hi Taffy51 congratulations on completing the plan...are you consolidating now? Breathing is a struggle in this cold weather...I have asthma and have really struggled...the best way I can tell you to breath and you need to do this to practice...lay on your back, put a book on your stomach and breathe using your diaphragm which will mean that instead of your chest going up and down, your stomach and the book should be going up and down...this is the way singers breathe and allows more air into your lungs...try it next time you’re out running, it’ll take some practice but it works...it also takes your mind off what you’re doing too so before you know it, your run’s nearly over!! 😜

Do you find yourself coughing a bit when you get back? I always seem to be a bit wheezy..

Hi Taffy51, my tip would be to try and relax when you run, that definitely helps. What I do personally is I take a nice deep breath in through my mouth then purse my lips slightly as I exhale, I get this into a slow steady rhythm as I’m running. Imagine your body is like a machine and the oxygen your taking on board is your fuel. If your taking in sufficient oxygen you shouldn’t feel so out of breath.....hope this helps 👍
