Injured 😭😭😭

W6R2 and I have an injury - devastated!

(Please excuse my ugly feet and sock line in the pic!)

Inner ankle is sore, swollen and a bit bruised (google tells me it’s posterior tibial tendinitis) and that it could lead to fallen arches!

I sincerely hope that’s not always the case (I’m not sure why the thought of that makes me feel a bit ill - a bit like the nails down a chalk board feeling 😳)

Have read online about some exercises to do to strengthen it, will rest until completely healed and continue with ice packs....

Any other advice will be gratefully received 😊

It could be an ankle ligament sprain (which I have personal experience of). The only way to properly tell is to have a physio prod and poke the area.

Rest, ice and elevation.

Thank you. Did yours heal okay?

Yes, but it took two physio visits and the best part of a month with no running.

Oh no! I’ve had a look online and it looks like there’s no face to face physio appointment just now, just zoom calls 😣

I injured my post tib tendon hurtling down a hill trying to do a sub 30minute 5k shortly after completing C25k. Get it checked by a a real life physio if you can but if you can’t google Bob and Brad posterior tibial tendinitis. I thought I would never run again but I did ❤️🏃‍♀️

I will look into seeing a physio. I’d guess my best bet is to do this privately rather than through my GP due to waiting times, however I’m going to guess they won’t be seeing/assessing anyone due to the current lockdown restrictions 😟

My chiropractor is still working - it’s classed as a medical service so able to open. Check about physios near you. Good luck.

How long was it before you could run again? I was totally in the zone and enjoying it!

Think it was about 10 days before I was running again. I went on to run 10k six weeks later. It’s still a weak point though and I still need to be careful with speed. I’m not very good at doing my exercises. You will be back ❤️🏃‍♀️

"Ice Ice baby." Look up: "PRICE" P= protection. Rest is most important. If it is really bad then a physio may be able to advise in detail via zoom.Ibuprofen will help ease inflammation/swelling.

Re-usuable ice packs are great if you don't want your frozen peas to de-frost too often.

Thank you...I’ve got a re-usable ice pack, will use it every night after work.

Do you think ankle support socks are useful?

My work doesn’t allow for much rest, but trying to take it as easy as I can 😊

I injured my ankle somewhere around week 7 and ploughed on until the very last run, W9 R3 when it finally collapsed. That cost me around 13 weeks on the injury couch and, of course, I repeated the entire C25K. My fitness was fully gone.

What you need to do is find someone who'll take a look at it (physio, osteopath or chiropractic). Google (and, God forbid, Wikipedia) should not be any part of your diagnostics, even in the wildest dreams. Why? I did that. Cue 13 weeks off.

But the most important part is actually figuring out what caused the injury. Was it 'too much - too soon'? Did you trip and fall? Are your shoes fit for purpose (mine weren't)? If you don't know what, how and why it happened, it will most certainly happen again.

Oh no, i really don’t want to repeat again 😟

I’ll not go out running, unfortunately my job doesn’t allow for much rest, had to run (by run I mean hobble) to a couple of emergencies last night and was in so much pain afterward.

I definitely think it was too much too soon and not enough rest between runs....lesson learned 😭
