Today, I have taken the day off work so I thought I'd put it to good use and complete this run to get week 8 completed. As I was getting ready, the weather was sunny and I felt positive. Perfect. I set Spotify to Go, switched Jo onto play and pressed start on my watch.
I got about 4 minutes into the walk and the heavens opened with a deluge of hail. I decided that having read some threads on here over the last few days mentioning rain, that I'd take the attitude of once I'm wet, I can't get any wetter, so I carried on.
I met a dog walker who I'd been catching up to. He thought better of it and turned round for home. I caught his eye and as I did, he looked at me like I was a bit mad ☺️, maybe I am a bit, my husband would agree totally... I carried on regardless.
I had changed my playlist to some tunes that bore no resemblance to my cadence and I had no idea of their BPM, they are just tunes that lift me, proper dance tracks, one of which reminded me of the live Sax I treated myself to at my wedding, so that was fab! 🤩 I think I've cracked the music thing now and am at peace with not running to a beat. Brilliant I think to myself.
Whilst running, my watch kept making a funny buzzing and I wasn't sure what it meant, but after about 5 mins of running it was saying a distance that was completely off. 5 something. Well I didn't have time to sort it out mid run so I hoped for the best and prayed once I synched my watch later, it would right itself.
The route I had chosen today was based on how the weather had caught me out at the last minute. I didn't fancy turning left for my usual route which would have taken me head on into the hail so I decided to run straight on with a side wind. This last minute change took me the same route I did for W5R3, that big milestone run that many fear and I myself was shocked to have completed and actually enjoyed. Luckily, after about 5 minutes, the weather subsided, the rain and hail stopped and the sun returned complete with hat. I felt comfortable and I could definitely do this! On the week 5 run, I knew where I had turned at the half way point, so I was really heartened when I passed it with 4 minutes to go until the half way point. I managed a cheeky photo at the next village signpost but definitely didn't have my camera out snapping away today as I did on my last run. I needed to keep it dry for a start. I turned around much further on in the village than I've achieved before and felt amazing that I was really running.
On my way home, I also felt lucky that the massive muddy roadside puddles were avoided by passing lorries and cars. Due to the path being lower that road level at times, I think I'd have got a faceful if they hadn't🤪🙈
On my homeward stretch I was pleased I hadn't worn a rain coat too in the end as I could actually feel the sun in my back and it felt warm...ish... I really can't do hot with exercise.
I reached further than my starting point of running by about 50 seconds, which I was pleased about but reached home 90 seconds earlier too, so I did dip out on a little of the cool down run but did my stretches all the same.
I was really looking forward to seeing my distance but was so disappointment when my watch told me I'd run 12.7k with a fastest k of 1.37m😂😂😂
Maybe it's time for a new watch 😁😁
Today was a good day. I am actually running.... For fun no less. I know we still have Covid, but it's a new year with loads to look forward to. I am fitter, I have even been looking at entering my local 10k race for Life in May which I am very excited about. I am really enjoying blogging my progress too... Life is good and I'm going to graduate next week all being well.
If I can do this, anyone can.
Happy running everyone 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️💪❄️🌞⛈️☔🌈🌧️💧🌞
