Enjoying Running

This is a post I’d never thought I’d write!!

Am currently on Wk4 D2 of the programme and absolutely loving running! I have really bad memories of cross country running at school, struggling with exercise and asthma as a child and just hating it all! Topped off with PE teacher telling me had ‘the frame of a middle distance runner’ so ended up doing the 1500m at sports days and coming last every time... urgh!

Now in my 40s after many redundant years, save for 100km charity walks for The Solider’s Charity, lockdown saw me piling weight on and struggling to be motivated to do anything at all.

Challenged by my wife to do Couch25k, being bought a pair of running trainers after gait analysis and having to run on a treadmill in front of a stranger I find myself a little hooked on this running lark...

Not pretty, not fast and having dreaded Wk4 and 5 minutes of running since the start of the program, am utterly astonished I did the first day of the week on Saturday, moving 4.3km in the 30 minutes...!

Day 2 today and already lying in bed willing the kids into school so I can go for a run!!!!!!!

Been reading posts on this forum for inspiration for the last 4 weeks so thank you for sharing your amazing stories. They’ve really helped motivate and inspire!!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

That's good pace. Keep an eye on it and pace yourself now. You know what is coming up next week!I actually found Week 4 the hardest and had to repeat it. On the other hand I have never walked 100K before, so you probably have the bonus of knowing what your body can (or at least used to be able to) do.

I'd wager you will be in the top 10% who actually graduate with a 5K in 5 weeks time.
