i think what i did was expect to be able to do this in one go ie. 9 weeks. whereas in fact, for me, it may take far longer than that. i don't know why cos Lord knows, i give it my all. the point is it's my journey and it lasts as long as it lasts. i am certainly not giving up, though i am a wee bit sore now and tired of the disappointments, i am sticking with it. running as close to my goals three times a week. getting and keeping fit. i am giving nowster's cleverly devised programme a go and seeing if that helps me get a rung up the ladder to w4r1 success.

Well done DTC, just keep plugging away at it and I’m sure you’ll succeed with the determination you’ve already shown.🙂👍

Don’t get too focused on targets, just give it a go. Make sure you have rest days between runs though and stay hydrated. Your body will need time to adapt to your running so it’s best not to push it! 😊 Good luck, keep posting on here and you know you’ll get loads of support😀

Stick with it and you will reap the rewards.

Next time you run say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one out breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

i promise to do that. and i will stick with it. that's two promises

Keep going 🏃‍♀️. It will get easier. Honest! I’ll let you into a little secret. Before starting C25K I increased my walking distance 3x a week to 5k because I wasn’t fit and felt very tired all the time. Only when I could walk 5k did I try to run 5k and then I had to repeat some runs. Lots of those I graduated with are now running 10K and more but I’m nowhere near that yet. It’s different for us all but stick with it you’ll get there.

Don't worry about repeating weeks, I think for those of us who are really starting from scratch, it's something we are all going to have to do. We're not all natural runners and, as with everything, some take to it quicker than others. I'm also struggling but I will keep plugging on too. Take care and keep at it x

do you run outside

Catho78 ?

Catho78 profile image
Catho78Graduate in reply to changing-woman

Yes. I tried it at the gym a few years ago (no TVs mind you) and found it harder to focus. Now time only allows for a run from home so I started again outside and have got to know the many ways to lap my village, and where the hills are lol, but with an uphill, the down hill is fun.

ooh i just learned how to do the @ thingie. yay me, after 3 weeks... haha. i cant run well enough to run outside yet. i mean i really cant. i am struggling to start week 4. but i will when i can for sure i want to get outside. what do you wear?

I had to run on a treadmill at my physio appointment recently, having never done so before. I found it soooooo much harder than running on the tarmac. I think it's because of the springiness.

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply to WeavingWonk

oh thanks for that, cos thats what i am hoping! that when i get outside it will be easier! :-) good to meet you

WeavingWonk profile image

Good to meet you too! I'm a relatively recent graduate (June). I suspect you'll start to enjoy the running more when you get outside. It's a richer sensory experience than pounding on the treadmill, which I just found hard physically when I had to do it for ten minutes. And incredibly boring. I can't exercise for the sake of exercising. I'm inherently too lazy for that. I think that's why cycling and running are the two things I have been able to stick with. (Cycling years ago when I was riding 100+ miles per week for several years, and now running two decades later - the couch and many pounds in between). Both are done outside and can be enjoyed for reasons far beyond just getting exercise. I have never been able to stick to a gym routine. Too boring.

I wear 3/4 length joggers, a t- shirt, a running cap and a light weight running jacket which normally comes off after 5 mins of running and I tie it round my waist. You heat up quickly on a run (and sports bra!😬)

changing-woman profile image
changing-womanGraduate in reply to Catho78

oh good, that sounds about like i wear (no cap or jacket as am inside) ...

have a wonderful run and think of me desperately trying to get past 10 minutes (and that was in different pieces) x lol x 3 minutes in one go is my max after 3 weeks... i think we're in for the long haul here, cap'n
