Feeling despondent today ๐Ÿ˜ž

So, I managed the dreaded 20 minute run, week 5 run 3. Not too bad really.

Today I did run 1 of week 6 and really struggled! Seemed like the longest 5 minutes and then 8 minutes. Not sure why this happened, I wasn't dehydrated and had good breakfast couple hours before going out.

Maybe just one of those runs!

Yes, probably just being too harsh on myself!

Donโ€™t feel despondent Wk6R1 catches a lot of people out just scroll through the message board and you will see loads of posts similar to yours.

Itโ€™s because your back to interval runs on day 1 after doing a long run of 20mins the run before.

The good thing is wk 6 is the last week you do intervals from day 3 through to week 9 itโ€™s all long runs.

Good luck for the rest of the program and take heart from the fact that even though today was tough you still completed the run.

Thank you so much, so kind.

Looking forward to next one now ๐Ÿ˜Š

That run catches lots of people out, keep moving on, slow down a little, if you have any energy left near the end you can always speed up some

Thank you, it's so reassuring to get feedback ๐Ÿ˜Š

Best thing about week 6 is getting to the end of it ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think after the euphoria of running for a full 20 minutes wk6 is to remind us that yes it can be tough .

I found the stopping and restarting quite hard and was glad to get into the flow of wk7.

It also prepares us for all the other โ€˜horridโ€™ runs ahead which we all have ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚no matter who you are.

So onwards and upwards ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ All will be well ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ™‚

I think going back to interval runs after completing one long one is harder. I found stopping and starting more difficult. Keep going. It's a great achievement. Well done

This happens quite often at week 6, the high of finishing 5-3 and then the surprise of the return of interval running for week 6 throws a lot of people off, just stick to it the programme knows what it's doing ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป your doing great, keep it up ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

This also happened to me. In my case. I think I was over-confident because I'd run for 20 mins, so 5 and 8 would be easy, right?!

You did it though, so don't worry, just slow it back down and you'll be fine. ๐Ÿ˜€

I agree, I must admit I had told myself this was going to be an easy run! I should have remembered there is no such thing ๐Ÿ™„!

Hi swim63,

I saw week 6 as a chance to push myself and to up my pace.

You now know you can do 20 minutes and if I remember correctly, you now have 2 intervals of 10 minutes running with a 3 minute walk. If you feel up for it, just up your pace, take those 3 minutes walking to recover and then go again to finish on a high.

Then you'll feel up for W6R3 ๐Ÿ˜€

swim63 profile image
swim63Graduate in reply to Tank_EG

Thank you. I'm not sure I will get round to upping my pace anytime soon, but so long as I complete the run I'm happy ( sometimes happier than others!)

Iโ€™m going into week 8 and W6 R1 has easily been my worst run. Youโ€™ve got it under your belt now so well done! Loads of us have struggled with that run, donโ€™t know why it should be, but donโ€™t let it get you down, itโ€™s done now! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Everyone has โ€˜mehโ€™ runs from time to time especially (as others have said) on W6R1 but you completed it , youโ€™ve only got one more segmented run left and then itโ€™s all running from W6 R3. Get out there and smash it, if youโ€™ve done W5R3 youโ€™re are now officially a runner.

Hi there swim63, well done on getting that done! Its all onwards now....I've just done week 7 run 2....glad there's no walking in between now..this is my second time round with c25k, if you're wondering about my graduate badge! I did graduate, but I had a lengthy spell of illness and had to start again.....so having done this whole thing once already, I'm glad I've now reached the weeks where you don't have to stop and start....breaks the rhythm, I think that's why week 6, run 1 is hard ......you've just figured out what your rhythm is....and you have to walk...keep going, its all good!๐Ÿ˜Š

swim63 profile image
swim63Graduate in reply to Cakerunner

Thank you Soniabrown, that definitely makes sense. It's all a bit of a mind game really. I normally can't wait for the walks!

Hopefully tomorrow will be better ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

I can relate to this . I had difficulties with the exact same run. You just have to check your speed and maybe shorten your steps . Listen to your body and be gentle . Iโ€™m now on consolidation runs and having the occasional off day (an off week actually) I slow down , dig deep for resolve and then try and go a bit faster for the last minute .

Good luck , youโ€™ve done so well to get this far .

Congratulations on completing, looking forward to that high!

Another one falls victim to W6R1....seems to catch a lot of people out???? However...there's going to be good & bad runs along the way. You're out there and you're doing the business๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘...that's what counts. Hope you next run is comfortable. All the best. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹

Dear Swim, Congratulations are always deserved no matter which run it is, if it was a struggle but one that you overcame - so well done! This particular run is notorious as you will have read and is a bit a right of passage that confirms you're on your way to your target.

Best wishes, you're doing great!

You are definitely not alone in struggling with this run. It is a common theme on this forum that we find it difficult to go back to interval running after Week 5 Run 3. I *really* didnโ€™t enjoy that run and was surprised at how many people commented when I posted about my struggle. You are definitely not alone in disliking that run.

Onwards and upwards - only one more interval run before youโ€™re on yo 25min + runs as standard ๐Ÿ˜Š

swim63 profile image

I'm so surprised how many people have struggled with this particular run, maybe we all thought it was going to be easy after the previous 20 minutes!

Cakerunner profile image
CakerunnerGraduate in reply to swim63

Well, maybe the inventor of C25K realised new runners needed to know what 'down runs' feel like......at the same time as making them want longer runs? Maybe genius if you think about it??๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I have decided there is no logic in running. The other day I struggled to do any running, so after stopping and starting I gave up. This morning, with rain predicted, I thought I needed to try again. Off I went and despite wind and torrential rain it was fine.

Not sure if it is in the mind, the body doesnโ€™t feel like it - I have no idea but I have finally given up analysing why some days I can and some days I canโ€™t and am just grateful for the runs that go well.

Stick to the app and you will get there. Happy running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

I remember feeling exactly the same about that run, for no logical reason too. Bear with it the next one might feel much better, i find it easier to keep going rather than breaking the longer runs up. Keep going, you're nearly there!๐Ÿ™Œ

Aw, don't be despondent. I graduated in August and for ages felt as if I wasn't progressing. I try to find a positive in every run, even if it is a small thing... My heart rate was lower.... I recovered quicker.... I wasn't as knackered.. I enjoyed it more..... I went when I didn't want to.... I was a bit quicker... Went a bit further etc etc. All of sudden I am progressing and did my first 10k today. It takes time. Chin up x
