Feeling disappointed with myself

Was suppose to be doing run 🏃‍♀️1 of week 8 tonight but talked myself out of it - I’m finding it difficult running after work in the dark! Have no choice as finish work at 5pm and know it’s going to get more difficult as the weather gets worse - probably need to join a gym and run on the treadmill but can’t because of lockdown - any suggestions 🤔

Hi I feel your frustration, try doing it in the morning, still dark I know but you will 🏃‍♂️ on empty stomach which you might find easier, or try weekends until it gets a bit 🌞 in the evening

Definitely couldn’t do it in the morning lol 😝 but I do tend to do a Saturday or Sunday afternoon - was looking to hire a treadmill but quite expensive so I will just have to out there Friday night come what may 😱

Definitely won’t be early runs but I have thought 💭 may be able to do it on my lunch - I get an hour don’t live far from work so it’s possible 🤔

Don't force it and make yourself feel uncomfortable. If the treadmill/gym sounds like a good option, then simply press the 'pause' button on your C25K journey ... and try and keep yourself active as much as possible until your local gym re-opens.

Maybe a 2nd hand exercise/static bike that you could use at home in front of the TV or listening to a podcast/music etc?

Yeah sounds like a plan 👍

re: lunch hour - I would deffo recommend running during then if you can make it work. Take your stuff to work with you (maybe wear it underneath other stuff) and then run from and to work during your lunch hour. I'm sure you work loos will be very handy. Dry wipes are useful too :-) Needs a bit of planning and prep but many folk do it, including me.

I’m going to give it a go probably go home out for run shower and back to work - see how it goes

Don’t feel too disappointed, it’s hard when you’ve been working all day. I agree with Knightrider_28 I normally go out at 6am when it’s starting to get light, it’s nice and fresh that time for the day, and the run sets you up for the rest of the day....only other alternative is to run on weekends or get your your own treadmill, maybe a folding one👍🏃‍♀️

I’m going to attempt to run 🏃‍♀️ on my lunch hour see how that goes

I did my first run in the dark tonight. I wasn’t keen but it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

I run beside a river and it was raining so it was quite atmospheric. It felt very different than in daylight so I tried to look on it as a change? Something different? Tried to find the positives???!!!

During the day I have music on but I didn’t feel comfortable enough to put music on and it being dark.

I would still prefer a daytime run but can’t always fit it in and, like you, I definitely can’t do mornings!!!

I hear you. Today I’ve been to work, got home late, did more work (paperwork emails) then did my elderly mum’s care. At that point I squashed in a 20 min run on the treadmill ( at home - very old!) before I ate!

It’s not safe to run alone in the dark where I live so it’s really difficult to fit in outside runs.

Perhaps stick to running at the weekend and join the gym when the lockdown ends. Only a couple of weeks more. Perhaps do strength training to complement your running mid week. Or buy a cheap treadmill on eBay or Shpock. Bet there’s loads on there 😂 Or find a partner to run with. Hope you find a solution but don’t be disappointed with yourself. You’re doing the best you can 🤗

I’ve had a bit of an idea 💡 to do 2 of my week day runs on my lunch hour then the other at the weekend - feeling quite excited now as I certainly didn’t want to give up after getting to week 8 - to be continued.....

I’ve gone out a couple of times now after work and enjoyed both although I did have my doubts. Have to run through the houses so there’s always street lights. Got my reflective vest on and arm light. Husband asked if I was going trick or treating last week!

Was nosey this week seeing how many Christmas trees/Christmas decorated houses I could see - 6!!

Yeah I go round the houses but it doesn’t seem the same as running 🏃‍♀️ in the daylight but am going to try running in my lunch hour a couple of times a week then one on the weekend

It can’t work for everyone, but is lunchtime an option for you? (Before the lunch, obviously,) I read a fun article online about how to fit one into the middle of a workday, use workplace staircases as cool-down equipment and take post-run ‘bird baths’ in the wash room. The main drawback was looking a bit flushed as you return to the job afterwards. Just a thought.

Sometimes you have to do things that fit in with your life and looking a bit flushed is the least of my worries!

Hi I use a "Westlight" chest light that is adjustable so unlike others it actually lights up what you want to see and really is bright, worth a try maybe go for a walk with it in the Dark first to get it set up and used to it, I find headlights too obtrusive for me.

I run of an evening (5pm onwards) and prefer it at the moment (dark so no one can see 😆) I’m on week 8. Decided when I graduate to try mornings before work but I’m not a morning person so maybe afternoons ? 🤔(I work in a school). The main thing I notice when I run past people houses around tea time is the different smell of dinners, some smells nicer than others obvs! Keeps me focused on enjoying my own when I get home though. 😂
