Well I managed to conplete day 3 of week 8 today after Friday's attempt. I slowed down but was still struggling a little with breathing, maybe it's the change in season? Anyway , onwards and upwards to week 9 on Weds.

Weather can definitely effect the way we breathe. If it's really cold, you may want to consider a neck gaiter - I have found them very useful in the past.
Sometimes when I struggle with breathing I focus on counting my in and out breaths - I find it helps keep me calmer and keep my airflow as steady as possible. I learned years ago when I was training for longer runs (half marathons) that it's a good idea to breathe in for an odd count, and out for an even count. For example: breathe in for 3 strides and out for 2.
The reason for that is apparently the foot that lands as we begin to breathe out will naturally strike just a wee bit harder than any other time. If our pattern is an uneven number it means we alternate which foot strikes hardest each time. While it may not seem like a big deal, over time and over the course of many runs it can make a difference.
Another tip I can offer is sometimes I'll talk to myself a bit when my breathing feels labored. This will help me determine if I really am going too hard or not. If I can talk without struggling too much, it may be that it's more of a mental struggle that my lung capacity.
