Hi running 🏃‍♀️ 🏃🏽🏃🏽‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️ Peeps, could anyone recommend a treadmill, the reason I ask is I’m a recent amputee and want to get back onto C2 5K, but for now the thought of running (bumbling along) and ending up with stump hurting away from home is putting me off starting, but I thought on a treadmill I could just stop and then flump into a chair without having to hobble back home and cause damage to my mate Stu the Stump.

Any advice, recommendations or tips would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Pete.

That's good thinking - I cheat another way I only go out long distance when hubby is home and I take my phone, if I get problems I can just phone home to be fetched!

Hi again Pete,

I have a treadmill, bought for similar reasons a few months ago.. I’ve used it maybe four times and Mr P has used it about the same.. it’s not great fun, but I’m not sorry I have it there.. It’s much larger than I expected, but luckily we have a place for it where it’s not in the way or obtrusive..

I know nothing about brands of treadmill so I can’t help on that - when I bought ours I just searched Facebook marketplace for second hand and discovered there is a very lively market for them with a range of prices starting at around £50 - I’ve just had another quick look and maybe the prices have gone up with growing popularity this year.. I think I paid £110. I found and tried to buy three before managing to buy one because every time I emailed the seller had already sold so you have to move fast.. but at least you know it will probably sell again easily if you don’t take to it.. I’m really glad I didn’t spend much though, because I would definitely regret that!

All I would say is, make sure the one you buy has sturdy bars to grab if you lose your balance - (or even to hold onto at first, although I think that’s maybe not how they are supposed to be used?) I find balance on moving ground is more difficult than static and I had to grab on once to avoid falling over.. Also, the platform on mine is quite narrow.. I’m very small, just 5ft, and slight, so I manage, but Mr P agrees that a wider platform might be an improvement..

Hope that helps a bit..
