Yesterday, after taking a couple of rest days, I did this run without a problem. I know many find it’s relatively easy from mid-programme onwards but I really, really felt it at w6r3, which caused a wobble.
I took on the words of wisdom (thank you!) and shortened my steps. There were still the twinges in hip flexor/ groin (a completely new thing for me), but I didn’t go into panic. All is remarkably good, not even the muscle ache you’d expect. No shin splints (in every bone), no ankle pain. Yeah!
I did a lot of listening to my body. I eased off the leg raises I was doing to support my crappy knees (now tangibly less crappy btw). For the run, I summoned to my cause the best breathing lessons from yoga and Pilates, where you visualise the breathe travelling into the problem area. And my thanks to the lovely Pilates teacher who adapted the Monday class to accommodate/ help my issues.
Park at midday yesterday was absolutely full of runners ... no doubt we were all seizing the last of the bright October weather. I smiled at the sight, and completely lost count of the others. I’m definitely one of the seniors in the crowd, but that itself made me extra happy and proud.
