First 5k!

Well it's taken a while but I knew I'd get there. Started c25k in April, graduated in June, did loads of consolidating at 30 mins and c25k+ podcasts then started JuJu's magic plan timed version. Had to redo week 4 cos of 'stuff' but knew I'd hit 5k during the 50 min run. So at the age of 66 I can run 5k 'at my own pace' and for 50 mins 😊 how good is that! Happy running everyone πŸƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯

That’s really great. As it’s known as C25k, it’s good to get the 5k done after graduation, however long it takes. Then we know we can confidently do Parkrun and thing! πŸ™‚

'That' is not just good that is exverlkent and absolutely how it should be done πŸ‘Œ

Your pace, your run, your 5k slow and steady is the secret of life I think πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‚

That's amazing Blossom - well done! I haven't run for 50 mins yet, but I have conquered 5k. Reading your post, gives me confidence to know I'll get there at some point.

Having a rest week this week due to hip niggles, but back on the Magic Plan next week hopefully! See you there x

Thank you! Yes it's like graduating all over again, and I was just as excited beforehand as I was with w9r3!

That’s awesome 😎 our first 5k took 52 minutes and we were only 63 at the time so we are totally impressed

Oh thank you! Yes sometimes the doubt creeps in, you know, shouldn't I be quicker than this, but I've thoroughly enjoyed just plodding along, doing different NRC guided runs, seeing small improvements, learning about 'my pace', 'my run'. I know I can go quicker and I know my 5k will get quicker. I'll just enjoy getting there (injury free 🀞) x

I have run 5k in 40 minutes but at our age it’s not about speed although nice to look back and see we have got a bit faster, we ran 8k this morning, it took one hour twenty two minutes but i ran 8 k in April which took one hour twenty six minutes so it’s improvement and i’m just pleased to run

I'd be over the moon with 40 mins! It was 48 this morning, slow and steady! We've got this😊

48 min is an average that i’m comfortable with or sometimes 49 and i’m not sure how the 40 happened it never has again but i’m working on it

Speed isn't that important (although people here keep saying I'm fast). It's keeping at a certain level of activity for an extended time. Once you get beyond 20 minutes the benefits kick in.

Anything over that - distance, speed or duration - is a bonus.

Thank you. Yes I learnt from this forum that it's not all about speed. I know I can go faster and my 5k will improve. I'll just enjoy getting there 😊

Wow, that's amazing, I am so impressed. We started and graduated the same months and I am the same age, so you have spurred me on! I will do those C25k+ podcasts, just sitting there waiting for me . . . :)

Just read your latest post. I had a bit of dip due to holiday, weather too hot etc but am back in the groove now! Can't say I loved the podcasts, but they are interesting. I'm using the guided runs on Nike Run club which I think are great. Good luck - see you at the 10k line πŸ˜„

The spirit is very willing ... the body not so at the moment. It doesn't help that I am not sleeping well at the moment, but I will get back out there, don't worry :)
