Hi everyone, finally took the plunge into the c25k after many (many!) years of just thinking about it. I'm on the wrong side of 50 and had some previous health issues but just completing my first was great!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

I am on week 4. Week 1 is hard. Everyone will tell you to slow down. It's not a race. I never thought I could get to 5 minute jogs but I did and I only repeated 2 runs in week 1 - I think it was psychological.

I am repeating Week 4 from tomorrow so I can complete the session with no extended walk phases. As I said the whole programme is not a race. On the other hand, not wishing to contradict myself, you need to push yourself a bit. It's amazing how much you will improve.

I used to smoke 6 years ago. I would have been wheezing after Week 1 run 1 then.

I am glad it's just my unfit legs and ankles now that slow me down at the moment, and that is something I can control by sticking to the programme.

BTW the contributors on this board will give you great practical advice and encouragement. Keep looking at the board as there are inspirational posts every day.

Congratulations on starting this amazing magical programme. I graduated this week and had not run for about 40 odd years. If I can do it I’m sure that you can. There will be moments of doubt along the way but believe in yourself and you will succeed and graduate in a few weeks time.
