Not sure when I’ll run again!😳

On my last run Consolidation 8 which was just over 4 weeks ago I slipped and fell...

All seemed ok just a bit shaken up, but I’d actually done more damage to my shoulder than I realised...

It’s an injury to my rotator cuff. It’s very painful and I can barely raise my arm.

I have seen an Osteopath but after 3 appointments wasn’t getting any better, so I changed to a Physio. She is much closer to home and seems to be helping me straight away!

I’m seeing the physio weekly at the moment, I can’t do a lot but I’m getting quite good with ice packs and exercises! 😳 😂🤣

Oh dear, I’m trying not to be sad 🙃 but not a lot to say really other than if you can run go have fun and enjoy yourselves...🏃‍♀️🏃🏻🏃‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️ 😀😂

I’ll sit on the injury couch and get back to it as soon as I possibly can!

To be fair, I am walking most days, but once you can run it just ain’t the same!

Catch you soon 🏃🏻‍♀️😂🤣

I had rotator cuff. You must do the physio exercises. I didn't do it enough. I wasn't as bad as you it sounds like. My GP sent me for a precautionary MRI scan. Surgery was not considered necessary. It is still not 100%. As the GP said, it tends to happen in older people.

It may have come from too much swimming and not enough warming up!

Try cycling in the meantime.

Hi Rennur, thank you for this, I do hope you are ok...

I really am trying hard with the physio and will continue...Interesting you mention swimming as until lockdown I used to swim 2 or 3 times a week then it all stopped. I’m not very tall and find even when reaching to open and close the garage door it’s always a bit too much of a reach. Never have been very strong in upper body so know I have to get this right and the physio is going to help me get into Pilates once I am better. Also, good to think about cycling, as soon as I can I’ll be back on the road 🚴 at least they have had time to sort some of the potholes as that was a reason I put off cycling and started running! 🏃🏻‍♀️ Thank you again, 😊 I appreciate you helpful advice.

I feel your pain, you must do the physio it is the only way, I have a false shoulder/upper arm on my left and then tore my rotator cuff and Bicep ligaments in the right, had to have an operation to re-attatch and therefore 12 weeks off running. I am on my 5th week back running and doing all my physio, the Surgeon is shocked how far I have come, I put it all down to doing the physio and the "I can do it" attitude this running journry has taught me.

Keep up with the physio and good luck with getting back to running when you can.

Thank you KevinFG... Ice packs and exercises seem to be all I am doing at the moment, so will definitely keep doing them. I am sorry to hear what happened to you it must have been awful! BUT I can’t believe that you got back into running as well as you did! That’s pretty amazing 😉, Wow!

Yes, thank you again I will keep up with the physio and hopefully get back to running with an I can do it attitude...As I need to!

Thank you so much for great advice and good luck on your running journey🏃🏼

Oh dear chrissie so sorry to hear about your fall and injury. It does sound a very bad injury that will take time and lots of exercises to recover from so I can well imagine how hard that is when you were enjoying your run and going so well with your consolidation. I had a bad fall at the same stage and didn’t run again for 5 weeks and that was hard enough plus left me with a dodgy knee so since then I’ve been more careful and taken it all much more slowly but I am enjoying it again and hopefully you will too. Glad you can get out and walk and hope this will sustain you whilst you recover. Take good care 🤗

Thanks chrissie, I’m nearly there but there are often bumps in the road to hold us up ....as you have found sometimes literally! ...this week I’ve only managed one very short run 3.2k! so far....I have missed a run due to health problems ....this running business is a great teacher, patience is my ongoing lesson 😆 but hopefully we will bounce back and being grateful for what we can do is a great place to start, as you say whilst we’re still walking we can be glad for that 😃 let us all know how youre getting on with your recovery whilst on the IC 🤗

Hi Chrissie, sorry to hear you are still having trouble .

After my injury in week 8 I also had 2 Osteopath appointments and then found an incredible sports physio who happens to also be an extreme marathon runner !

I only saw him once and he was straight in there with correct excercises for me .

Worth his weight in gold !

Good luck with the physio 🤞

Hi Ian, thank you so much! I know exactly what you are saying, the moment I saw the physio she got it!!!

Anyway, I feel I’m going in the right direction now and I know how important the exercises are and I will continue to do them.

Like I’ve said I’m very impressed how you are doing Ian...Great to see how much you are enjoying your running 🏃‍♂️ thanks again😊

Oh you poor thing, sorry to read this chrissie. I’m glad you’ve found a good physio and that you’re able to head out for walks at least. Fresh air and movement will still be good for the soul. Be kind to yourself and take your time. Keep us posted with your progress 💛
