Thank you to @Roxdog for mentioning 'mindful thoughts for runners' in a post πŸ‘

A great little book 😁

And while I was there on Amazon I found the 'Runners cookbook'

As i have now realized I can't just eat anything just because I'm running

Two excellent purchases by the looks of things! My copy of The Runner’s Cookbook is arriving tomorrow, so although my diet isn’t unhealthy for the most part (maybe the maple syrup on my porridge isn’t that healthy!) and I’m fortunate that I don’t need to lose any weight, I’m looking forward to some different, healthy meals tailored for runners 😊

Yes, it's a good book , already been shopping for some ingredients πŸ˜πŸ‘

Ooh, exciting! Can’t wait!

Instructor57 profile image

I actually like cooking , I had just got lazy over the last few weeks

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate in reply to Instructor57

haha, the jury’s out on that one! My husband used to do all the cooking. Now he’s left I’m having to learn it all over again!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Jools2020

That's when I started of course ,

Some good reading there, it’s is a whole way of life isn’t it? this running business

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to SueAppleRun

So I'm beginning to appreciate πŸ˜‚

SueAppleRun profile image

I’m being rather cool, on the IC with my leg raised and compressed patiently waiting for my arnica gel to arrive lol

My problem with food is I like cooking too much, we end up with all sorts of lovely things to munch on. Seriously though, I recently read most of β€˜The energy plan’ a lot of which is about nutrition for energy , very interesting and a lot of I’m getting right, but the quit smoking weight isn’t budging yet

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to SueAppleRun

Well, I actually love baking , but when you live alone that's not a good idea , haha, I usually bake all my own bread as well including sourdough but now trying to watch the carbs .

I actually gave up smoking 23 years ago when I was 40.

I joined a gym at the same time and managed to loose weight at the same time !

BUT, it eventually came back on again 😐

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Well i am sure regular running has kept a lot of weight from finding me, but some things that i rarely ate when i smoked i suddenly found tasted delicious so added them in

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to SueAppleRun

Haha , yes, I found I ate things I didn't like when I smoked (well, probably couldn't taste them ) 😁

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Probably couldn’t

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate

You have it all wrong!

I am running so that I CAN eat anything 😁

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

That's what I thought I could do 😐

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Ha ha!

That was a bit tongue in cheek of course πŸ˜‰

I might start thinking about that sort of thing if I decide to train for half marathon or something like that, but I'm not planning on anything like that anytime soon.

It's also more difficult when you have to think about other people in the household too...

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Yes, I realise it was 😁

I had noticed I was quite fatigued, and I think I can put if down to my diet that has definitely slipped over the last few months , so, back to home cooking .

I felt so much better when I did this before

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

I'm putting my fatigue down to lack of sleep. It's been a long 6 months without a proper break from work or change of scenery. I'm hoping my week away from Saturday will do the trick and effect a reboot 😁

Yeah home cooked is definitely best - I always try to do that.

And I love the fact that you bake. Hubby makes all our bread, including wild ferment sourdough, and it is so different to shop bought

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

I love making sourdough 😁

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Yes - you just need time and patience

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

I think my starter is about 5 years old now 😁

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

That's pretty cool! Hubby says his is about 18 years old now. It's amazing how they just survive with a little bit of feeding every now and again

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Left mine in the fridge once for 6 months but still revived it , 😬

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

I like French patisserie as well, like making macarons and eclairs , that's the problem, I have a sweet tooth 😁

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

That's the trouble you see!

Neither of us have a particularly sweet tooth so he mostly does savory. Banana maple and pecan buns are about as sweet as it gets

With any dish, just add spinach. You’ll feel great!

Glad you like the book!

I won't get the cookbook (don't eat meat or dairy), but am thinking about getting more protein into my diet.

Happy reading - I think the mindful thoughts for Runners is one to dip into periodically to remind yourself of a few useful thoughts when motivation or resilience starts to dip.
