Best wide fitting shoes?

I've tried on a few branded running shoes (£60-£80 range), but they all seem to be quite narrow & it feels like they could split after a few runs. So I sent them back.

The widest part of my foot is about 10-11cm, so do I need wide shoes?

Can anyone recommend a decent pair of shoes? I am now on to week 9 & I can feel my feet getting sore in my oldish trainers (not real running shoes).

The best shoes are the ones that are the best and most comfortable fit selected from those offered after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop............. without some analysis of your running style, you may end up buying shoes that are wholly unsuitable for you, even if they initially feel comfortable. Brooks and Nike tend to be wider fit and Brooks also do extra wide fitting.

The price may seem exorbitant but it is the best investment you can make in your fitness and is much cheaper than a physio.

I have wide feet and they over pronate, the local running shop sold me New Balance 860, they are really comfy. I recommend getting fitted in a running shop, they are really helpful and know their stuff( I was a runner years ago and I’m getting back into it now I’m 51!) It’s worth travelling to get well fitting shoes.

Did you purchase them from a running shop? I would seek out a running shop so they can watch your running style and recommend trainers. My right foot angels slightly when I land, but that’s because I had a swollen ankle when I visited. But they recommended trainers with a higher side to help support the ankle.

What size are you?

I take size 8s and my foot (cold and rested flat on floor) measures 10cm at the widest point. I’m always being told I have wide feet, whether for shoes or boots.

I would steel yourself to expect to pay a little more than £80, unless you manage to find a pair in last season’s colours: same shoe, different looks (fashion). But it’s the only expensive outlay that’s essential at this level.

Mine are Brooks which suit me to a tee, but it won’t mean much to another runner as we’re all different, even with the same size feet. 🙂

I have about 6 pairs of normal trainers all 8-9 sizes & normal width, but I've been finding (Nike) running shoes somewhat narrow. I do expect to pay a bit more for a decent pair of running shoes, bit just hoped I could find a wider fit. I've seen Brooks are often mentioned, so may give those a try, after a gait assessment too!

Brooks ghost are wide I think. Hoka do wide fit.
