For everyone just starting out and being told to slow down, then thinking “i’m running slower than i walk!”

Keep at it, keep going, this isn’t a race, this isn’t about speed, they will come later

This is about keeping going for the required time and steadily building strength and stamina so you can keep going.

Trust in the plan .

We have had a couple of walks lately, and oh it takes what seems like forever to get anywhere walking..... which just goes to show that over time our running has become faster than our walking

Good luck, have fun all

All so true, I know I can actually overtake walkers, well sometimes as long as they aren't going to fast and definitely not uphill 😂 I was sorry to read that you'd had to pause your running but obviously a sensible decision. I'm loving your photos looks like you have some lovely places too walk and soon run again

Walking is fine for a day or two I’m sure we will be running again soon, it’s only a twinge but no point turning it into a full blown injury, so a few days rest and stretch and back stronger

Thank you, I love taking photos

Thank you , this is definitely encouraging ! I’m always getting distracted worrying if I’m too fast /too slow .

As long as you can comfortably breathe you aren’t going too fast, you should be able to say a few words without gasping, i don’t think there is a too slow, but you aren’t supposed to be able to sing, we often break into song but Willow is a singer and I just enjoy singing lol 😂

Lovely post. I’m oh so slow when I run, I blame being 4.10 and having such short legs. It’s those moments when you feel great at your pace and someone shoots past like a gazelle 😞

SueAppleRun profile image

Those gazelles usually have long legs and may not be enjoying themselves as much as we do, we see more of what’s around us by being slow

That’s so true, we aren’t slow! We are just taking in the view

Yes and look at my photos i took as i’m forced to only walk this week so much I don’t have time for when running

Our first 5k took 52 minutes so come back and tell me how slow you are when you’ve run 5k, bet it’s faster than that 😀

Haha, that happens to me as well and I’m 6 foot! So no excuses, I’m just slow and don’t care!

Slow gets us to the end of the run so a success

Haha, there goes my “good” excuse

I’m keeping my consolidation runs slow - about 9 minutes per km at the moment. Still I think you would need to walk pretty briskly to be doing 6.7 kph/ 4.2 mph.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate in reply to BradC

9mim per km is a good steady pace, we pootle along around that and a bit faster on a good day or shorter run

Well said you 2..... and looks like you have somewhere lovely to walk too :-)

Walking is lovely although we are both limping so it’s slow, but not too much damage done, we are hoping to run on Friday

Tinytears60 profile image
Tinytears60Graduate in reply to SueAppleRun

Limping? Oh no .. have you injured yourself?

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate in reply to Tinytears60

Yes fraid so, my calf is very sore and Willow’S knee is playing up

Tinytears60 profile image

Not good 👎

Be kind to yourselves and take a few days off ... perhaps until next week?

Limping? Wait until you're feeling fully right before you even think of running again.

Hoping to run Friday but it’s beginning to look less likely now

That's what I thought back at the end of August. 🤕

Compensating for one injury might strain something else.

yes I don’t have a choice about work but I can take some time off running until it feels completely better

Absolutely!! 🤗 And if you’re in too much of a hurry you just might miss the beauty of it all!! 🤩🤩❤️

That’s very true Fabulous, I just feel a bit disappointed to quit on week 7 almost half way here but it was a bit of a struggle to fit in 4 runs a week, i’ve now set us a much more achievable plan on Garmin which I can adjust week by week so our long increasing run each week will fall on a day off, last week we did it on the morning before work then night staff didn’t turn up so i worked through the night and was totally exhausted

We will walk for the next few days and see how we go I’m hoping a short run on Friday but won’t run until this calf pain has gone

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate in reply to SueAppleRun

Ah WillowandSola I hadn’t realised you’ve changed the plan. And you know what, I would do the same thing too! Without doubt! 👌🏽

If I’m pushing too hard, running feels like a chore and I just know I need to adjust something, even if I’m trying to just see it through!! The relief I feel when I actually do that adjustment puts all the joy back into running! I’d rather adjust and enjoy, than push, not quite knowing what I’m pushing for!!

You’ve now got a plan that works better. It’s just an adjustment and if you didn’t start the other plan you wouldn’t know. So it’s all valuable!! Well done to you both!! 😉❤️
