My next run is W7R2 up until now I have listened to audiobooks.

But I feel music would be a good choice moving forward.

I would appreciate some advice as I don’t want to listen to music that might increase my speed.

I like 'Crazy Little thing called love' Queen - it really boosts me up. Also Rick Astley, Shania Twain, Elton John (i'm still standing!) Anything that gives a bit of attitude to keep me running when it starts to get tough!

Not sure my choice would suit but for my first 25 minute run I listened to Pink Floyd's 'Echoes' it's a 24min track 😂

A bit of George Michael perhaps? Not too fast!

If I use music it is just my collection on shuffle, so everything from Thomas Tallis to Jimi Hendrix via Nirvana and Bob Marley..........you don't have to be dictated by music pace wise.........you are in charge.

Good idea

I don't know if this helps but I've found it easier than I expected to ignore the beat of songs when I've been scared of going too fast. I'd go for anything that automatically puts you in a good mood whenever you hear it. One of my songs is Paolo Nutini's pencil full of lead. Far too fast to run to the beat but i can't help but smile and be absorbed by the music when I hear it

Well done for being at wk 7 . I’m not too far behind I did Wk 6 Run 1Today.

I’ve had issues with the app cutting out so use the podcast now but last week for the Wk 5 run3 I made a playlist as I thought it would help me with that first continuous run week .

I felt if it was my own favourite tracks it would provide more distraction from wondering when Laura was going to tell me how many minutes I’d done , and it did 👌🙂

Like you I didn't want full blown rock anthems which might encourage Me to go faster and mess up . ( I had gone a bit faster on the previous 2 runs and didn’t feel great for it ).

Anyway I put it together the day before and it is below . I Made the last three tracks shorter ones so it kept me interested and they were all favourite artists that I had seen live ( not Elvis !! ) or had memories attached .

It provided tons of distraction and got me there 😂

5 min walk - Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits

Take it Easy - Eagles

Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

Suspicious Minds - Elvis

Uptown Girl - Billy Joel

Crocodile Rock - Elton

5 min walk - The Way it is - Bruce Hornsby and the Range

I’m going to use it again for wk6 R3 But have moved Dire Straits into first track of the run to make it 25 mins and I’ll add something* else for warm up walk .

Hope music works for you it certainly did for me 👌🙂

Good luck with all your future runs too

Thank you

The idea of using your favourite tracks is a great idea. The memories they evoke would certainly help me through the runs.

It has given me much food for thought.

Thank you for taking the time and thought.

Wishing You the best of luck for the rest of your C25K journey 💐

If you use Spotify you can search for running playlists based on the BPM of your choice. I have much faster playlists but there’s plenty of slower paced ones.

Yes I have Spotify. I’ll take a look. Thank you 💐

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm just wondering how people manage to listen to the app and music? Not sure how you work that out 🤷‍♀️

I play my music on my iPhone as well as the app and the app interrupts the music when required

Thanks Jane. I'm just rubbish with technology! I have the programme as a podcast so not sure if that would work

I like to listen to the BBC Sounds app, a bit of live radio in the morning or long runs, normally my Sunday morning run, I’ve downloaded Bruce Springsteen coming from his home, a real eclectic mix and interesting discussion especially during these times and there are loads of episodes.

That sounds interesting. I’ll give it a go, a nice change from a playlist. Thank you

AlMorr, one of the admins on here shared a post a few weeks ago about classcial music running playlists created by (wait for it) Mr Motivator of all people!

I like classical but would never have considered running to it..! Going to try it at some point though. Just thought it worth mentioning since you wouldn’t have a beat to contend with 🙂

Well guys

This morning I ran w8r2 to music for the first time and it was a real game changer.

I can’t put into words how wonderful I felt.

I now know I can get to the end with a great smile on my face.

Thanks for all your advice.

I listen to fast paced music, but I’ve found it doesn’t increase my speed, but keeps my mind at that tempo. Weird I know?! I play music (bass) so it kind of works for me.

Totally agree. I find what ever I listen to my pace is approximately the same. I do feel the fast paced music makes me feel more up beat.
