Interesting !: runnersworld.com/uk/news/a2... - Couch to 5K
Interesting !
So gals are averaging 38 mins for 5km and guys are averaging about 29 mins. I wonder what the age distribution is.
Most of my 5K runs are around the 33/34 minutes time, the age grading at parkruns are interesting, so if you're 50% that would be average for your age, there are runners who run a sub 30 minute 5k at 45%, other runners at a different age who run a 5K in 33 minutes like me, my age grading at parkruns averages around 55%.
Can't quite get my head around parkrun age grading
Look at it this way, a runner might get a sub 30 minute 5k at every parkrun they run at but never an age grading above 50%, another runner may never get a sub 30 minute 5k but gets an age grading of above 50% at every run, its all to do with your age.
I just found an online calculator and with my best 5k road time and my age I get a grade of 49.44,%
But that means nothing to me ??
So would 50% mean average for my age and a higher percentage be above average?
I think 50%is average for your age, 60% +is local class, 70%+ is regional class, 80%+ is national class, 90% is world class, as far as I'm concerned, I am just happy to keep my runs at around what I have have been running at the 33/34 minutes and 55% age grading, your age grading at 49.44% is OK, see if you can get it to a little above 50%. 😊 🏃🏾
Ok, i get it 👍
My PB time at a parkrun in September 2019 is 30.55, that was the nearest to a local class age grading of 60%, on that run my age grading was 59.35 %, but since then apart from one run at the same parkrun which I ran in a time of 30.56, most of my runs as I told you are around the 33/ 34 minutes time.
Great article Instructor57! 🤩 A lot of people will appreciate being in the average. Myself included!! 😉 Thank you! ❤️
Rest day today, looking forward to my run tomorrow.
Since your graduation do you still run 3 times a week?
More participation from less traditional fitties, gotta be a good thing! As of today I’m above average! Sky’s the limit when I’m 2st lighter 👍🏻👍🏻
Haha, interesting indeed! So I'm about average for a 5k but way off for a 10k! Oh well, don't really care, I suppose the longer I'm running, the more time I have to enjoy it! No doubt I'll speed up at some point! 😂
Haha same !
I just ignored my 10k number 😂😂😂
I suppose runners who are in the stats for 10k runs might be more experienced runners, hence faster. For example, I would theoretically consider doing a 5k park run, but wouldn't dream of doing a 10k race!
My quickest 10K is around 70 minutes, I was a spectator at two 10K event races last year and noticed that they had a 70 minutes pacer at both of them, it made me wonder if I should have ran in at least one of those runs, there is nothing this year because of the epidemic.
There's a local 10k road run in my area every year. My colleague and friend, who runs HMs and ran with me around the running track a few times very patiently before the lockdown, does these 10k races and suggested I do one in future
That is very unlikely to happen - don't like road running and I have no doubt I would hate it! 😂 Just not for me, even parkruns don't feel quite right. I'm not at all antisocial, but my runs are something I do quietly by myself. It takes all sorts! Your times are great!
Remember that all those roads and even some parts of a motorway are closed to traffic during those road races, I remember seeing a runner who was interviewed after running a half marathon saying it was so strange running on the M8, the motorway he usually drives on to work which of course was closed for that half marathon which by the way was "The Great Scottish Run. "
I'm two weeks off graduation but I'm expecting a time of around 35/36 minutes for 5k to start off with. I can't believe I've just typed that. I haven't run that far since my early 20s when I did a 6 mile fun run.
One of the links at the bottom of that article: 5 reasons why you can't run faster, is also very interesting, especially if you've ever doubted the benefits of long slow running.
