Sharp calf pain in right leg. Wk2 run1

Hi all. So the good news. My peak flow is up so my lungs are getting stronger which is fabulous.

Went for the first week 2 run of 90 sec jog and 2 min walk. But on the second set I had a twinge in the middle of my right calf. This meant that I had to heel strike for the rest of the set to get it done. I'm normally a midfoot runner.

Anyone got any ideas about what has happened or how to prepare for the next run. Don't want to take my calf out. Last time I tried in a treadmill and had to end the plan because I did this and ran through it meaning I couldn't want for 2 weeks properly.

Any advice is appreciated.

Just experienced a similar calf issue, rest and stretch, I've taken to calf compression sleeves just to try ease the fatigue on my ageing muscles

That sounds like a great idea. I will look for some now.

Up and running is where I got mine, but I think online has pretty much everything nowadays

New trainers maybe?

I have some under armour Hovr Guardian. They are support trainers and I am wondering if that is the problem? They are virtually new.

That’s great news about your asthma!👍

As for your leg (and obviously we can’t give medical advice) it could be that your muscles are very tight or it may be a strain. Are you warming up properly and stretching out after your runs? Maybe you could get a Foam roller.

It is never advisable to run through pain though. Better to take a few days rest and let things settle. If this is a recurrent problem, it might be worth seeking professional help from a sports physio.

Good luck - hope it settles soon.🤞🏻🙂
