A fail? or just a blip...?

Did my C7 run today and for the first time my calves were aching and my legs like lead. I'd done C6 two days ago (after a week off on holiday) and found it tough. I had Laura on the C25k stepping stone podcast on weds. Today I was freestyle again and just found it HARD. Needed to walk a little at odd points towards the end. Felt like a failure as I've always managed to keep going, pushing on to the end. Oh well lessons learnt and I live to run another day.

Some days are just like that I suppose. Have others had tough runs. I'm not even reaching 5k yet either 😕

Don't worry about distance or pace. It will come. Are you hydrated enough? Urine should be champagne coloured😂😂👍

Maybe it was that and lack of the magic half banana I sometimes have before leaving home! I’ll bear in mind the wee 🥂

Every time I have the banana magic I do a good pace. The more I think about it the more I’m convinced it was a day of very modest carb the day before that could have led to my slightly dodgy run this morning .

I think Magic Half Banana would be a great name for a runner’s podcast 😬

Hm, until you just mentioned it I hadn’t got as far as thinking about the types of food I’m eating to fuel myself for running. I’ve just been going with ‘healthy’; lean meat, fish, eggs, etc. So carbs can be a good thing?

And P.S. I just realised I never actually replied to your post, just got blindsided by ‘champagne’ and bananas 😁

Sorry you had a rubbish run. Shake that feeling of being a failure though because it looks like you’ve been doing great! 👍🏼

As we know there are no “bad” foods but lean and less processed is better. Carbs are essential for activity it’s how the cells get energy. I recall a documentary not that long ago with the Dr Twins. One eating only protein (Keto like diet) and the other having more carbs and processed I seem to recall. They sent them out on a cycle ride and the protein twin had no umph and couldn’t keep going or accelerate. Was interesting . Thx for your comments. I think I’d like to be “in wine” also 😉

Just a blip. We all have them, it's how you come back from them that counts. Take an extra day's rest, make sure you drink plenty of fluids, chin up and go again.

Good luck!
