Week 6 R3: EPIC FAIL (feel gutted).

I posted a few days ago about how I found run 1 of week 6 tough.

In contrast the second run of 2 x 10 mins was fine. I really enjoyed it and was coasting at the end.

Then today I went out full of optimism into our local park to do run 3.

Totally crashed and burned. Ended up sort of repeating run 2 - that is I managed about 10 mins of running before I felt my lungs were bursting and I had to stop and walk. After about five minutes recovery I started jogging again for another ten minutes.

So now I feel a bit gutted for having to stop and walk in the middle.

I think the problem was going off too fast. Such a lovely autumn day, bright sunshine, lots of walkers around. Went off with a real spring in my step but totally knackered myself.

I'm realising the way to do this is to find a pace which isn't much more than jogging on the spot really.

I see that Week 7 is just a repeat of week 6 run 3 - ie 25 min jog so I think I am just going to plough on rather than go back and repeat. It's the same run away right?

The advice off everyone is slow down . It honestly works and allows u to finish the complete run . It may seem slow at times but at least Ull finish and feel the achievement of the run . Speed can come later . Good luck x

You are not a failure far from it. Think back a few weeks when you were trying to run just for 5-8 mins I bet you thought it was impossible but now you are up to 25 mins!!!. A lot of members including myself have had to stop the run & walk for a few mins just to get breath back. I have even failed 2 different weeks twice and started them again. I felt I was a failure because I had to slow down but once I accepted that it is better to slow down and complete the time it has been easier. There is only one person in your race and that is you, you will always come 1st, just got to tailor the race to your pace.

You are not alone, W6 for me was hard and other members will tell you the same. When you start W7 if you find you have to walk for say a couple of mins and you feel better for it then do it. Not necessary but if feeling good at the end of 25 mines tag a couple of mins on the time, like extra time in a game of footie(-:

And by the way if I was jogging in the park and a load of old codgers were going on a walk they would overtake me(-: . I can actually walk faster for 30 mins than I can jog for 25 mins. If I jogged at my fast walking speed then I would not complete the c25k.

I am sure other members will put it better than me but find your pace to run/jog where your breathing is steady but hard.

I graduated a few weeks ago, but I still do walk/run sessions. I always intend to keep going, but I don't worry if I need to walk on the odd occasion any more. I have usually try to add time onto the end of a run to make up the full running time. I would move on to W7, and like the others say, just slow it right down. Enjoy it!

No use of the F word on here allowed, naughty naughty.

You have learnt from that run. You know why you didn't complete it as planned so it wasn't wasted and you're still determined to move on so well done. Don't beat yourself up about it, put it behind you.

Slow and Steady are key. You can do this. Good luck with week 7.

No 'f' words... just take a breath and move on with the run after your rest day. Do the run again...only this time.... slow down... and then slow down more.... :)

Yep, you are going too fast. Simple as that. You can run fast or long but not both. Slow down and you will be fine. But it's not a fail. Now I have graduated I sometimes do short fast runs. It's good for you and builds your speed. Plus it's fun. But it's slow and long you need for C25k.

No, no, no - not fail - think practice!!

Slow, slow, slower, gentle, relaxed = happy lungs- nearly on the spot is good! I do that and have given worrying about how it looks. I proudly overtook some sprightly dog walkers last time.😂

Speed can come later when you are ready. 😀
