1st blister ☹️

So today was supposed to be a nice walk around a new route where I live to try and find more flattish areas for me to consolidate as my usual

Runs have so many hills I just want to take it a bit easier once a week and run on flatter tarmac, 27 mins in and I can’t help myself im off! Ran for around 15 mins then walked for 8(massive hill) then ran for another 5 then walked to cool down. I feel a bit disappointed as obv I wanted to run for the full 30 but I think at least I ran at all. It’s so hilly where I am I think it’s tine I started driving to the local playing fields and running around those twice a week x it’s flatter and it’s beautiful with the river and the trees and lots of other joggers and doggies so it’s actually a route upgrade. Oh and my posh shiny new Gel Kayano 26 let water into the toes and I have a little blister right on the end of the little one. Grrrrrr!

Ouch...hope the blister heals quickly!

I need to investigate new places to run, I've stuck to the same route from Day 1.

I keep thinking of trying somewhere new, but then I worry when it comes to it that it will be hilly, rough ground,I'll get lost etc etc!

Good on you for finding new places!

It’s my local area as it’s the dream to warm up then run all the way and back home and then cool down just walking up and down my own street, but it’s just too hilly. I would have to run back and fore the longest part about 10 times to get 5k and people may think I’m strange if I do that hah x just have to get over the disappointment of having to drive to work out! Soo annoying x I think I should move to a nice flat section of England lol

I have to drive to run too, same reason. I did the whole thing once, but it wipes out any chance of running further/faster as the hills at the start are so exhausting!

Programme with those same routes and I think that it’s time to relax and enjoy my running now and that for me means flatter runs. Perhaps once a week I will do my old route and see if the flat runs improve my pace over time in the hilly route then x whatever I do I’m helping my heart and my thighs tho so it’s all good!

Is cycling to the start an option? I've been surprised how much a quick 5-10 minute cycle has increased my range!

I don’t have a bike! I’m thinking of how much a gym might cost me and if it’s a good idea now the rain is making all the fields muddier and I don’t want to have another fall in them! I could cross train and use the free weights aswel then z perhaps I need to think about shelling out! No more free exercises for

Thanks I hope it doesn’t kick off in the morning now when I do my proper 30 min consolidation run! I will be really angry if it stops me running x such small things can be so painful!

Applying a bit of vaseline or lip salve pre-run helps reduce the rubbing. I have also treated myself to some new double layer running socks - haven't tried them in earnest yet but they feel wonderfully soft and smooth.

Amazon I'm afraid (trying to kick the habit). I got some 1000 mile socks for about £10 which is a lot for socks but a bargain for feet I can keep running with!

Me too I hate the company and have deleted all my

Subscriptions etc that I had, hate their ethos x so they stop blisters is it?

I know what you mean about the hills! I've also been toying with the idea of hopping in the car for a change of scenery.... but the only real flat area that's kind of close to me is an industrial estate..... and while it ticks the boxes for flatness and less secluded.... I'm not sure I want to give up my mornings meetings with the local birds, cows and sheep! I saw a green woodpecker for the first time today on my warm up walk.... felt so privileged!

Yes that sounds like a crap run, the Ind est I mean. There’s one seconds away from me down the big hill and past three thousand cars! But I don’t want to run there how depressing eh! I’m gonna try newbridge fields in the AM nice and early to get a space in the car park and hope that it’s not all mud as that will stop me running aswell 🙄

Hope your toe heals soon! I’m lucky that my 5min warm up walk takes me up the hill and then it’s relatively flat otherwise! Bet you’re getting much fitter because of the hills though. Sounds like driving a bit for a flat alternative might be a good plan though to help keep up the motivation. Good luck!

Yeah some days I just want to enjoy it more and not have to slow down and sped up and all that. Be lovely just to be straight all the time, I wonder how much my pace would change too. I am trying the fields tomo fingers crossed it’s not all clogged up with the rain we have been having tho x

Experiencing running in new places is places is a joy - we’ve got to discover places we didn’t know on our doorstep.

I know it’s tempting but the recommendation is not to miss out your rest days at this stage. People on her have said blister plasters are good, but we are now coming to the season when your feet are going to get wet so do make sure that your socks and shoes are right for you.

Yes you’re right I need a rest day today x I have noticed since starting the programme that when I first get up and walk downstairs it’s a very careful walk as my knees don’t feel strong at all. They feel like I could fall at any minute? It wears off after I move about a bit but I’m wondering if it’s a warning sign that I should be doing knee exercises daily. So basically starting those three James Dunne?exercises this morning coupled with a light walk this aft with the dog. I don’t fancy having to stop running altogether because I didn’t take the time to recover x thanks for the reminder
