Yes, what you've heard about shoes is true - up to a point! Certainly, our feet swell as we run - especially in the heat or once you build up distance. The size you need very much depends on the fitting of the running shoe however - I have typically gone up half a size in most of my running shoes, although with my new trail shoes (which arrived today - very exciting! 🤗) I had to go up a full size.
You could also go along to a local running shop and ask for a gait analysis. This is where they look at your pronation and running style and will let you know what type of running shoe will suit you best.

Thanks for the info. Golly maths isn't my strong point so is it sufficient to just keep
adding extra time rather than distance? We are likely to cover more miles if we keep adding time every few weeks as we get comfortable with doing a bit more?
