W8R1: Slugging through

Time: 7.35am Weather: 15°C Overcast, recent rain, humid.

Isn't this supposed to get easier from now?

Up, pills, loo, dress, loo, glass of water, out.

It had been hammering down about an hour beforehand. The pavements were damp and the slugs were out again.

My usual "there and back" route. The uphill sections were the usual slog which tired me for the downhill sections. The extra 90 seconds before the turn got me to the petrol station where my progress was blocked by an HGV wanting to turn out onto the road. I was about to run behind it when it decided to reverse. Grr! I had to jog on the spot for 10s.

The loo gremlin decided to visit about 10 mins in, but I successfully ignored the urge until I got back home. 🚽👺

Nothing else unusual about this one. I was happy to stop running at the end as I was getting tired. The humidity meant I was soaking with sweat when I got back.

A work colleague, a runner of several years, saw this morning's run on Strava and complained, "Crikey you're getting fast. [You're] only 1s/km slower than the 5.4k I ran on Saturday."

Eek!

Stats:

Distance: 4.33km running, 5.3km overall.

Pace (running): 6'26"/km. Splits (by km): 6'29", 6'36", 6'45", 6'03", 6'29"/km

Top speed: 10.6km/h, 5'39"/km, just before the turnaround.

well done! I hate having to jog on the spot as it throws my pace out. It is very humid today!

Well done, great pace! 👏👏👏👍 Jogging on the spot isn’t fun and when I saw someone doing it, I knew they must be doing couch to 5K!

Another good run! I have to cross a couple of roads on my usual route and waiting for the pedestrian crossings is the worst thing ever. I kind of awkwardly shuffle up and down the road a bit waiting for it to turn! Your pace is so good, all the splits 6:45 or under! I celebrate if any of mine are that quick!

On the return leg, if I'm on the left side of the main road I have to cross a traffic light controlled T-junction. I've usually been lucky that there's been either no turning traffic or the lights have been favourable for me to steam across without changing pace.
