Consolidation Niggles

So I've done 3 x 30 minute consolidation runs, last one was on Friday. But don't I was refueling properly as it really took it out of me and I was shattered. Achilles, shins and calves have been tender since. Unsure whether to continue resting until niggles go away or go for a shorter run on Thursday to test it out?

Not sure but I am finding there is a great post run stretches set on one of these pages which Might help prevent in future? Well done for getting this far.

Have you been doing some stretches? I’d say by Thursday you could test it out. Have you had shoes fitted? You might need higher drop shoes. Brooks do 12mm.

That article really hedges its bets, doesn't it?

I'd say zero-drop is natural and good, but never for people who have spent decades in shoes with lifted heels. The muscles and tendons get used to being in a particular neutral position.

It's a case of whatever works for you. Gait analysis may point the way to shoes that fit your current manner of running. If that doesn't work, it may be time to see a podiatrist or biomechanics specialist.

The only reason I can run in Vibrams now is because I've spent eight years getting used to them.

They need higher drop not lower

I didn't say that. I said that it depends on the person, and someone qualified (which may not be the person in the sports shoe shop) may be needed to help find the right balance.

For example, for pronation a higher heel may be a disaster.

You can get high drop support shoes

Everyone's needs are different. I'm sure high drop shoes work for you. I'm just pointing out that they're not the solution for everyone.

No they’d be horrific for me. I need low drop for dodgy knees / IT band 🤣 I went from unable to walk down a slight slope to fixed overnight with 3mm less drop 😊

Not sure what to say about niggles apart from watch out for your pace. Possible you're going to quick.

Fuelling? If you've eaten normally at breakfast, lunch, tea etc... then fuelling isn't really an issue for a 30 minute jog/run. Maybe a healthy snack about 1 hour beforehand is about all you need on top.

Well done.

If you are eating a normal well balanced diet then you don't need anything extra, but you do need to make sure that you are drinking an absolute minimum of 2.5-3 litres of fluids daily, especially in this heat.

Have you read this post about hydration? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You can survive for days without food but your daily fluid intake is crucial.
