W2R1 - Overthinking it?

Hi All,

So, it’s Week 2 already! I’m hoping all the weeks fly by as quick as the last.

I felt Week 1 was all about finding my stride and generally, it ended comfortably. I was suddenly aware of my calves, not because they were sore but more.. tingly. Like they were suddenly awake, going, ‘What’s all this?? Exercise?! Us??’

This morning, I had the standard new week ‘into the unknown’ nerves. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to burst into a rendition of Frozen, though it’s tempting).

I was out of bananas so had to make to with an apple for breakfast. They always leave me a bit burpy.. hmm, could be interesting.

Sadly I just felt a bit.. off this morning. My legs were a little heavy to begin and then I felt officially warmed up (read sweaty) by the third interval. I just couldn’t seem to find a comfortable stride. I wore a knee support for the first time and before leaving I read up on how to best look after your knees whilst running.

Perhaps my head was too full of trying to do the right thing. I was treading lightly and not over- extending, I was trying to keep my shoulders back/relaxed whilst the advice I read this morning said to tilt your upper body slightly forwards.

I was also concentrating on trying to ‘kiss’ the road and the ‘hedge’ advice from my previous post but I found this uncomfortable today. It was all a bit annoying.

In my cool down I could feel the sides of my lower back twinge a little as well as an ache just behind, and a little lower than my hip bone - the top of my glute I guess? Is that a common place to feel pain after running? I assume the ache in my back might be from swinging my torso a little too much?

I’ve done some stretches and feel fine now. My back still feels a little stiff so I think I’ll do some yoga this evening.

I will try not to let it put a downer on my day - at least I went. Plus, I didn’t stop running when I saw my baby cows. Deserve a medal for that alone 😜

One of the best pieces of advice I read on here was that for no apparent reason, you will have good runs and bad runs. Perhaps I’m just being a bit hard on myself and need to get out my head a bit more.

Any advice for runners with previous knee injuries would be much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

CC

Hot days are not good for running.

I think I’ll try and head out earlier on Sunday.

Hey - you did it. Are you doing more than you were 2 weeks ago ? Take time to celebrate small gains

Well done for not stopping at cows - that is admirable 😃

I haven’t got a known knee injury although Right knee can be really quite sore.

I just have to make sure I have more rest days and drink water all the time - it seems to work for me

Hi 61Lady,

It sounds silly but taking more rest days hadn’t factored into my thinking unless I was feeling really down and out with pain. You’ve just made me realise I should be aware of getting tunnel vision when it comes to my determination in completing this challenge. ‘Not a race,’ and all that.. 😊

Thanks for the tips ☀️
