Overthinking!

Sparkleandsprint profile image

**Update!** (I went out and did week 4 run 1 and managed just fine!) I even pushed myself to run a little further. Thank you again to everyone for your support. I’m always amazed at the wonderful community on here and how kind people are. It means a lot x

Hi everyone,

I think I must be boring people to death with my posts now (sorry!). If you’ve followed my journey, I completed week 6, got sick and had to take antibiotics, took a week off, repeated run 1 of week 6 on 30/06/20 and haven’t done a thing since!

Back to week 6 run 1 again? Feel a bit lost now/lost some motivation because I feel I’ve lost the training that I’ve built up and don’t know how many weeks to go back.

Thank you x

I don’t know tbh maybe try week six run one and see how you get on? Glad you are feeling better anyway

Good luck and keep us posted with how you are doing?

You haven’t lost the training! Muscle memory is an amazing thing! Maybe do week 5 again and see how you go? But don’t beat yourself up - you have been ill!

Don't despair you've completed two thirds of the plan, we'll help you to the finish line and graduation. With regards to motivation just remember why you started this thing. After graduation we all take breaks from running from time to time, then we have to take a few steps back to build up to where we were. You get used to it. Sure it's hard but after a run or three you'll start to feel great again. If you don't want to do wk6 try this plan, wk4r1 (easy for you) days rest, wk5r1 (also easy for you🙂) days rest, then you're on to week6. Relax, take it slow and steady and you're on your way again! Good luck and enjoy your running

Congratulations on restarting running, you have not been off running for long, if you wish you could start at run 1 of week 5, however, that's up to you. 😊 🏃🏾

I was in a similar boat myself. I graduated the c25k a month ago and hadn't run since but I went out this morning at 4.30 in the pouring rain just to see what my fitness level was and actually enjoyed a comfortable (apart from getting soaked to my skin) 32 min run! It was my favourite ever run tbh! So I'd say just repeat your last run and see how it goes. You might surprise yourself!

Glad you're feeling better too!!

I was exactly the same!! I think I got to around week 5 and just gave up and it’s taken me about a year to decide I’m gonna give it a go! Now I’m right back at the beginning and feeling very much the same!! All you can do is just put your trainers on and get outside and see how you get on. You may surprise yourself. And so what if your a little slower? You’re still doing better than you would’ve been sat on the sofa! I wish I’d have carried on or started again sooner so just don’t waste more time 🥰🥰

As stated in the guide to the plan, healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you lose no significant condition in the first two weeks of non running.

After that loss of condition is gradual.

All any of us can do after a lay off is to go out and see what we can comfortably manage, then build back up gently, using C25k or something similar as a guide to weekly increase.

You haven't had much time out, so actually you'll probably be fine to go back a run or two and take it steady. Good luck!

Can’t offer any better advice than you’ve already had but adding my encouragement and reminding you how amazing it is that you’re doing this and have got so far. Be gentle with yourself and remember the great sense of achievement we get at the end of each run. That’s what I do if I do t feel like going out and it helps. Good luck. 👍👍👍

As with so much in this plan and others, it is far more that mental hurdle of getting back on the horse.

Just get out there, even just walk your normal route, then a bit faster, then see how you feel. I think you'll be rather surprised 👍🏻😉
