I started c25k last week and did what I am now calling Week half! I could only manage 45 seconds of running. I did my 5th session today, W1R2 and am definitely improving. I suspect this will take me until Christmas to complete!

You’re moving and that’s what counts. I found slowing down to where I was comfortable helped a lot.
Sounds like you might be going too fast !
When you are running, would you be able to speak full sentences without gasping for breath ?
If not, it's too fast .
Slow it down untill you think it's too slow then slow it down again !
This is not about speed.
It's about building strength and stamina .
Also, do the warm up excercises highlighted in the guide and after run stretches .
Make sure you take a rest day and also stay well hydrated , even on your rest day as your muscles repair .

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.
