W5R3: A milestone

Time: 7.40am. Weather: Damp with hazy sunshine, 13°C.

It wasn't a walk in the park. It was a run on the main road.

For the first couple of minutes of the run my legs were complaining in various places. This passed.

About the 15 minute mark a stitch wanted to form, but it passed me by.

In the last couple of minutes of the run my legs were starting to feel a little sore and I was being propelled more by willpower than energy.

It doesn't help that the very end of the run has a slight rise. The course I've been running drops about 4m over two minutes and then has a steady rise of 25m to the mid point and then I turn round and retrace my steps.

But, as Jo Wiley said, "That's it!" at the end, instead of stopping, I did a couple of seconds of sprinting before falling back to the cool down walk. Nowt wrong with the legs, then.

This wasn't easy. It was tiring. On the other hand, some of the earlier weeks were far much more of an ask, and I felt much worse after them.

What the [expletive deleted]? I've just run for twenty minutes and nearly two miles without stopping!

Stats: distance: 1.0km walking, 3.1km running; pace (running): 6'27"/km

Well done! You have every reason to celebrate successfully completing this milestone run. It’s a great achievement 👍

Well done ! 😬👍

That's a great run to get under your belt .

I was smiling all day long after that one !

Beware of the first 2 runs in week 6.

Sometimes going back to intervals of can throw people off track !

I did that run yesterday, and for me the strange thing was feeling my legs stiffen up in the second of the walking interval...it wasn't the first time in the program where I thought I'd recovered before the end of the walking interval, but it was the first time where I wondered if I'd find it easier to keep lightly jogging through as opposed to going to a brisk walk (although, I definitely don't think that is true, I just wanted to keep the legs moving, maybe I wasn't walking fast enough.)

Yes, I know what you mean .

I've had a few walking intervals like that !

Take care with W6 R1. Your brain has to accept you’re back to interval walking, some find it tough.

I love your playlist! Popeye the Sailorman? 😂

Thanks for the advice about going back to intervals, Jools2020 and Instructor57 .

I suddenly became hungry so I'm currently having a celebratory one egg omelette and a mug of coffee.

PS. I got so wrapped up in things, all day I've been in the same kit I ran in this morning. It soon dried out. And I'm still grinning at bedtime. 😁

Well done 👏👏👏

It is a milestone.... and you’ve passed it!

Those pesky intervals come back week 6 and while they are completely do-able i didn’t like them... I called week 6 the biatch for that very reason🙈🤣

You got this! 👍

Great Job Nowster.

It has been funny doing the program how much it changes from a physical challenge to a mental one.

In the early weeks there was breathlessness and soreness in the legs that was foreign and more time spent worrying if something was an injury or not.

I'd finish the session and be puffed, and really tight through the legs.

The last couple though, I have spent a lot of the run with thoughts of stopping, but then getting to the end with the energy to keep going.

My legs feel free and I'm recovered pretty quickly into my warm up walk.

Can't help but laugh and wonder what I was on about when I thought I needed to stop.

I'm probably going a little too fast for this stage even so. I keep trying to slow down, but my legs have their own ideas.

Sometimes you just have a need for speed!

Don't be. The previous runs you have done have prepared you for it.

I look like a beetroot now but I am so proud of myself. I struggled in first half but gained motivation once I got to half way! Just can not believe it. Thank you!
