Very proud to say my daughter managed this one this evening. It was 77F according to the car when we set off, but I didn’t tell her that 🤣. Since her last run I’ve made her keep up her hydration, which she’s normally hopeless at, and it definitely helped her. Even though I’m used to running further, i was working a little harder than expected... I’d set my watch to heart rate zone 2, and I was just over a lot of times... watch kept buzzing to say I was over target HR, so often that I considered stopping logging it. We got to the end an my daisy was so proud of herself... she’s now going to get up early for the next run though 🤣

Anyone facing this run... you can do it, but if you’re running in the next couple of days, go early... or late!

Happy running.

Not too much chance of that just yet... but it will come. She did the plan a couple of year ago with me, and lost interest last year. Then, there’s a boy on the scene... decent lad... so I asked him when he’d like to come to parkrun! Anyways... he’s been doing C25K during lockdown so he can come run... and now I have a daughter who wants to run again 😀

She'd be mortified if she knew you were telling us lot, but I think that's so sweet! (And very canny parenting/coaching skills there, UNM!)

Yeah... she’s a little up and down with the first love thing happening in lockdown... but we’ve made sure socially distanced meet-ups have been possible. They’re both loving their running... so that should keep her going this time I think.

So hard for teenagers. Thank goodness things are easing up a little.

It’s weird... going into lockdown I was convinced that my daughter and her friends had no idea how to talk on the phone... now I’m just happy she has unlimited minutes!!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate

Yeah... I think that I read that teenagers need their slap up breakfast before parkrun but oldies like me have to have it later 🤣

Ah, I'm obviously a teenager still. Great to have the confirmation!

Such a game changing run. Well done to her - especially in the heat. I can sympathise as my C25K journey was April to July 2018 and I’d to plan my runs before the heat of the day. 🥵

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Sybilw

Yeah... first time we did it we started C25K in that heat. The first run I logged was August 5th... and it was 76F at 7PM! I’d been using a different app since the June with very little success.

Brutal!! My daughter did it last year - usually at 6am but repeated it with her kids (11 and 6) as lockdown PE. They all managed it - even my daughter as this time it was carrying a 2 year old in a sling. 😲 Another3 Parkrunners I hope. Are you doing the (non)parkrun’s?

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Sybilw

I’ve done one slow gentle 5k since it started... not logged it though 🤣. Still considering which parkrun I’d want to represent!

Quite the running family you have now... that parkrun will be unforgettable.

Well done! What on earth is a heart rate zone?? Is zone 2 good? Haha

Well done to your daughter too!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Dee_N

Err... well, it’s my resting HR to my max HR split into 5 zones with 1 being the lowest... I was expecting to not leave zone 2, and must have been on the cusp of 2/3 with all the alerts I was getting... won’t be doing that again 🤣

Ahhh....very technical! 😂 It was pretty warm today so all is forgiven x

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Dee_N

Sure was... maybe needing a zone 6 if I go long on Thursday 🤣

Is watching the heart rate important?my fit bit seems to show it, but i can see it only if i stop in shade. It tells me my resting and current rate. Should i work out maximum?is a pulse over that risky?thank you!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Gwyrdd

If you’re going to be in any danger from your heartrate you’ll have symptoms before you get there like nausea, dizziness, feintness... so no need to worry. Max HR is the most you can exercise to... there are ways and means of finding that out.

There are some big advantages of training in low HR zones... mensrunninguk.co.uk/top-fea... which is one reason that we advise a conversational pace, that’s roughly in zone 2

Thank you, so I have no need to worry. I can talk to myself and sing out loud as I run on my own.

Yep... that’s the best pace for development

Well done to her!... That feels a tough one to get under your belt... so credit where its due!.... AND I ran earlier today and it was hot then so she did it in the heat!...

Onto Week 6 for her ...Yipee - it has taken me by surprise so learn from me... take it slow and steady

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Tinytears60

Yeah... slow and steady is the only way to take those intervals! Gonna be even hotter on Thursday, so she’s trying to decide wether to get up early then or take an extra rest day. Personally I’d go with the latter, but she needs to be in control of her own journey. Maybe it’s just that I don’t want to run on Thursday 🤣

Tinytears60 profile image
Tinytears60Graduate in reply to UnfitNoMore

Nice that she's company for you ... I'm deciding the same... Thursday or Friday for my run :-)

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Tinytears60

I’m seeing a lovely evening in the garden tomorrow, and if she makes the right choice I can have a couple of nice cold ciders out there... fingers crossed!

It’s a tough call... my own run will be Friday I think... if I can use hers as my warmup that’d be perfect.

Well Done indeed! Plan to run early tomorrow morning for my next run !

Sounds like a good plan... I’ve just been outside and it’s not exactly easy walking up the hills 🤣

Fantastic!! Congratulations to her!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽😁🤩! Although W9R3 was the most emotional! Week 5 run 3 was my favourite run in the whole programme, because I knew then, that I could do it and I was going to make sure I did.

Well done!! 💥💥❤️

UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Nilsam

Thanks. We will clash at some point as she’s good at getting up and on with it, I prefer to go out as late as possible when it’s really hot. She doesn’t like my idea of compromising and going at 3am though 🤷‍♂️

Trying to figure out how to fake a gps signal so her watch gains 3/4 hours... Don’t think Garmins do time zones 🤣

Oh the joys of just being able to turn the hands on a clock and con my daughter to go to bed early. 🤦‍♀️🤣

She’s quite excited about parkrun... until I mention going to Lyme🏔 she’s after doing Alexandra which is extremely flat.

Yes, a group of us were going to have a meet at our local hilly parkrun, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, back in Jan/Feb but it was cancelled due to Storm Dennis. It is still on the list though.
