Trainers
Hi, good idea to find out at this stage before getting into the longer runs !
The best way I would suggest is to get a gait analysis done at a local specialist running shop so they can they see if you need a neutral running shoe or need any support , then they can find the right one for you .
Are you comfortable in the shoes you're currently running in?
They were ok but now as runs getting longer my ankles and feet are aching. Don’t know if it’s the trainers or just what to expect.- never ran before
It could be the trainers. It could be just that you're not used to it. Are you doing any post-run stretches?
No. Just doing the 5 mins cool down walk which sometimes I do for 10-15 mins instead of 5 mins
Good advice from I57, Gait Analysis is the way to go.
How long is a piece of string?
The best running shoes are the ones you are comfortable in and don't cause you injuries. That's not necessarily the most expensive pair, or the flashiest pair, but generally it is an expensive outlay that you need to know you're going to get some use out of.
The most popular brands do offer online analysis of the best style for you. However, nothing replaces going into a good running shop and getting good advice, and maybe a gait analysis. (I've never had one, but I love my running shoes with a passion and have never had an injury I could pin on them. Maybe I'm just lucky. 🤞)
If you continue your running journey, don't rely on 'fashion' brands. Set yourself a budget, read up and get the best you can.
Good luck 👍
Too true! I'm running in shoes that most people would cringe at: zero drop and no padding whatsoever. But I'm used to it. Apart from a little tingling in the forefeet the first few weeks, I've had no problems.
I'm not so lucky. I wear On Clouds, which aren't cheap and seem to be quite a marmite brand. The moment I put them on, I knew they were the pair for me. We've been together for 8 months now with never a cross word (well, maybe the odd stone caught in the tread). I wouldn't bother looking at anything else. 💕
The best trainers are the ones that are best for you, not what suits someone else. You can find this out by getting a gait analysis done at a reputable store, and if possible an independent store that will spend time with you and let you try several pairs - both on a treadmill and running outside...
My go to is ones that feel like slippers.....there are quite a few brands to choose from
Happy shopping!
