My hips ache

As another new year resolution I started c25k again. Only running on a machine I completed and went on to run 3 x 5k a week for 5 weeks gradually building up to 50 minute runs. I stopped as my hips started to ache.

I recently started running again, nice and slow for 20 minutes but my aching hips have returned. I was going to do short runs twice a week and take things easy, but it looks like I wont be carrying on as I don't want to do any damage.

I am 55 years old and feel pretty fit apart from aches and pains.

Does anyone else suffer with their hips ?

What are you wearing on your feet.

Good quality running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist shop may well ease the aches.

Hi, I'm running in fairly new Asics Patriot 3 along with sports socks.

I bought these last year after completing c25k again and doing longer runs.

Have you had a gait analysis?

No, I haven't had gait analysis done, could I fit insoles or would it mean new shoes if I had my gait checked ?

Thank you for your reply.

It would depend on whether your current shoes are somewhere near appropriate or not, I would imagine.

If you have a gait analysis done take your shoes with you.

I had aches and pains that where getting worse at the distance built up, in my case it was my ankles that where suffering. Bit the bullet last week and went to a specialist running shop.

Turns out I had the wrong support in my shoes. A new pair of shoes later and all seems good - only done 2 runs in them so far, but no more sore ankles.

Not what you're looking for?
